2022 Tundra vs 2022 F-150 opinion?

You keep saying backup camera but I am 100% certain the backup camera will still work. It's the other 13 cameras that will not without subscription.

 

It's funny how things work. They install all these things into the truck on your dime and then:

"Oh. Well they won't work unless you pay every month"

 

son of a bitch, bannerman was right. remote doesnt start it. oh well, hardly ever used it anyway. no I know it said "360" backup meaning you get the one view but not overhead, but the thought you paid for all the cameras but cant use them if you dont pay monthly is so stupid. All the companies are cruel for this and I'm betting there will be a lawsuit to come out against it as manufacturers didnt just install and produce the cameras at no cost to the owner.

Its getting so out of control. I had a road-trip for a wedding in upstate NY this past weekend, I saw atleast 3-4 Ford owners on the side of the road because they didn't renew their "engine" subscription. Its quite a shame

Agree that it is ridiculous, bills are already on the table in some places to limit this but with lobbying the way it is I think consumers are screwed.

The images from the cameras go into software (I assume 3rd party for both Ford and Toyota) that is "assembled and synthesized" see below - to produce fake but believeable images.
Maybe it was a ploy to get people to like the cameras and then make them pay later. I don't know the marketing strategy. But they are paying someone for the software rights, I don't think this is inhouse tech, and it keeps changing, so they end up charging monthly fees and those fees will change with the software.

Just more proof that these trucks are like rolling I Phones running XX types of software - some inhouse, much of it third party. With that I found the Apple I Phone and Ford F150 presentations very similar. 8^0

How Does a Surround-view Camera Work?
Though surround-view camera systems deliver images similar to a camera-equipped drone hovering 25 feet in the air over your vehicle might provide, they are not "real." Instead, the pictures and angles presented by the surround-view camera system are computer-assembled and synthesized using data drawn in from various digital cameras placed in strategic spots around a vehicle.
Video signals from the cameras are fed into an image-processing program in the system's computer, and then the magic happens. Those individual inputs are analyzed and knitted together to offer a synthetic but positionally accurate top-down view of the car and its surroundings. In most modern systems, the pictures appear in such lifelike detail that it's difficult to believe they were not taken from 25 feet above the vehicle.

 

No bullshit, My 7 or 8 year old son once got out of the Powerboost in a Target parking lot, stood on the bumper and randomly said Matter of factly "Dad, show me how the magic happens." I was honestly not sure what kind of talk I was about to have and the kid is notorious for jumping to random topics at random times. So I asked what the hell he was asking about.

Then he goes "You press a button and I see the truck on the screen from above. But there's no camera flying up there."

I don't remember exactly what I said but it was vague and he seemed satisfied enough to stop asking about it. "You'll eventually learn more about it in school" May have come out. You find yourself going down that rabbit hole where if you get too specific you end up buried in Questions all the way through to bed time with answers leading only to more questions.

But yeah after a year watching the screen from the backseat suddenly that gets tossed out there when I least expect it.

 

Would you agree to have that feature if they told you it'll be monthly subscription?

I would personally ask them to remove it if there is an option. (Surprisingly /s there wouldn't.)

 

All these monthly subscription services baked into the hardware on vehicles is gonna keep hackers busy figuring out how to bypass them and get them working.

 

I drove an 09 Tundra for 13 years and only even had a backup camera for less than half of that because I got a Pioneer head unit. 360 cameras became essential to me on my 157" wb F150. I like to think I'm that badass that would tell them to eff off if they want a fee and I'll be fine with just my reverse cam. But I'm honestly not sure how OK I'd be at this point after a year easily maneuvering using this system in crowded lots where Soccermoms in Pilots and Odysseys use 4 point turns.

tremor kind of helps that. Idk what the logic is but the tremor gets a different set of reflectors not projectors and it’s not the dynamic bending ones either.

 

can you guys share the link to the 2024 f150 builder, i cant find it my google fu is failing me, both the us and ca sites keep taking me to the 2023 builder

i think a xlt pb heritage edition with black out pro package may be good deal before going into lariat, and starting msrp tremors are cheaper then lariat as well.....

 

They removed the dynamic bending lights from the 2024? Even more reason to keep my 22 I guess

Somebody on TW said for 2024 they're dropping the V8 in everything except the Raptor R. Did I miss that or is he full of it?

Different V8 in the Raptor R as I'm sure you know. But the 5.0 is still available on the Ford build website for 2024

 

5.0 is available in XL, XLT, STX, Lariat and Tremor. Removed from King Ranch and platinum.

Also just noticed limited trim is gone. Must be what the platinum Plus replaced

Read today that Ford copied the footnote from blue cruise regarding the 360 camera subscription. And won’t be subscription based

 

I like how Ford separated the tailgate appliqué and dual pane sunroof on the Raptor for the 24. Now, all Raptors have the appliqué, but the sunroof is optional. Also, 2K pro power and HUD standard on Raptor now

Pulled into my kids school today and one of the dads has a fully built raptor, 37’s (or larger) on beadlocks, bed cage kit with air kit and 2 spares, LP4 ditch lights, new suspension, etc- looked amazing and never seen him there before… he was on a call so couldn’t chat. But damn a raptor or r with a a 6.5ft would make me jump
