Is that a firestick attached to your usb? How do you get signal for the firestick - I assume you have to use your phone as a hotspot?

I have a ROKU stick inside the dash, in the HDMI. Love it! (have another in the rear seat 17" screen I replaced the DVD player with) I have used that one more in hotels & traveling outside the truck.

 

Is it possible you never hit the brake when your key was in and then it didn’t shut off?

 

So, this seems to make sense to me, but never had a head unit with the capability to "watch tv". So use this give yourself access to the HDMI IN port, which will provide a video input to head unit and play output from an HDMI device (like a Firestick or laptop) when the vehicle is in park? Just wanted to make sure I understood the exact capability.

 

That’s right. There are also bypass modules that allow the HDMI input to work all the time. Check your local laws.

 

Here's what the RCAs are doing currently:
Ch 1, 2, 3, and 4 RCA(s) all play driver front door and rear driver side door. Plays passenger front very weak, and zero sound out of passenger rear door. Each of RCA cable performs the same on when swapped to each channel.
Ch 5 RCA plays the three doors listed above weakly, and zero from passenger rear.

 

I don't know about the Alpine, Kenwoods just need the parking brake wire grounded. (don't drive while watching TV)

 

Ok so if they all play drivers door the same 1-4 then you know it’s not a signal problem to the amp. The problem exists from the amp to the speakers. Channel 5 is you sub I assume and the volume of that output may be crossed over so playing on the drivers side is gonna sound week.

I would grab a 9volt and test all the speaker lines from the amp to them. Maybe we can get this down to just an amplifier problem. Also can you send a pic of all the gain and xover settings on the amp?

Is that a thing? Ive had that remote start 3 years and im sure theres been a million times Id turn the truck off after remote starting it without touching the brake.

Makes sense since the truck doesn’t come “on” until you hit the brake. If it doesn’t turn “on” it won’t turn off.

 

I cant believe I never realized that, thats wild.

So, finally made it through the thread completely. Thanks again to @RainMan_PNW @BiggHertz and everyone else for their input & starting this thread. I feel about 75% ready to tackle this and definitely going to add some things I didn't even consider planning for in the beginning after reading through everything. Got most of the stuff on order from AMZ and a couple items from Crutchfield that were cheaper or not currently available. All in, about $294 in install parts. Still need to decide on bypass for video and how I want to set up an HDMI input now that I see sports being watched on it...lol

1) I got the SUM-GT21 cable b/c that seems like a way better option. Assuming this might retain the compass and speed limit information in the dash display, but was curious if anyone checked that. I had read before that going to Alpine other aftermarket GPS puck did remove those displays from the compass dash view. Not a biggie, but wondered.

I am assuming the Acc-USB-TO3 harness is for maintaining your primary USB input for wired Carplay if you aren't using wireless for some reason.

3) Front Camera - Has anyone splurged for the Alpine front camera? Best price I have seen is $299 and that seems damn steep for what it is. Is it markedly better than a Natika? If I go Natika, do I need another adapter for mating to the HU/Harness or will it mate with what we got?

I haven't put in a HU since high school. This is going to be an adventure.

Which Alpine front camera are you looking at? The dashcam kit?

My nakita front camera looks like crap now on the 11". The factory rear cam is also worse with the bigger screen and higher resolution, but not nearly as bad as my front cam.

HCE-C2600FD for mounting in the grill. I don't really have a need for the dashcam I don't think. I guess it allows you to pan around a certain amount, which probably isn't the case with the $40 cameras so I am sure that is part of the reason for the cost.

 

The Nikita cam is 720dpi I thought. I don’t think the rear is that high. Hell idk.

 

Haven't seen anyone share this, but if you NEVER done anything like this, this is kind of a good video to watch. It's not as detailed as the connection information we will need that was provided by @RainMan_PNW at the beginning of the thread, but its good to wrap your head around it visually.
