I just bought a 21 Tundra 1794 edition, 50,000 miles on it, noticed a whine while accelerating between 40 to 55 mph, took to dealer today, said rear end needs replaced. Wow, I have been buying Toyotas for last 30 years, had my 02 Tundra for 21 years, no issues. Just curious, is this a common issue, I researched this truck, to say I'm disappointed would not suffice. They told me not to drive truck for any significant distance, the parts are on order with no ETA available. I kinda need my truck, a little disappointed in quality control down there on that 1794 Ranch.

I'd be throwing the BS flag.
Unless they dropped the 3rd and checked it, they are just guessing.

    This under warranty ?

Yes, it's under warranty, barely, excuse my ignorance, what do you mean by dropping the third? All I saw them do was to put up on rack, I don't think they did much diagnosis, just said rear end needs replaced.

    Too many mods to come
I'd first replace the fluid with amsoil etc before letting them rip that one out for a new one.

    Function before sparkle.
If it's under warranty just let them do it. But it's not a common problem with Tundras.

Very odd. I'd ask how they reached that conclusion. Seems kinda suspect to be honest.

50k+ miles on my '21 as well.

Yes, I'm gonna let em do it, but I don't like not having a truck, I wish had kept my 02 Tundra, but I traded it in.

When they say "rear end" what, specifically, are they referring to?

    Just rear differential?

Did they drain the fluid? Open the pumpkin? How did they come to this determination?

What specific parts are on order?

With flood everywhere, maybe water got in from breather valve.
