The scenario is that I get in the truck, fire it up and then realize I need to go get something or do something outside the truck bringing my phone with me.

When I get back in the truck it says wireless connection failed. Hitting retry doesn’t work, so I hold the button down to reset it.

At least *half* the time I get this error immediately when the radio shuts off.

Can someone else try this a few times to see if it’s just me? Make sure the phone connects and then take it away so it is disconnected for similar parameters.

I just attributed it to the 22 being trash, but this is a 23 TRD OR and it does it too. Not really a huge issue but it’s concerning that the radio triggers a warning light on the dash…?

Ignition on engine off, Walking out of range and back in it connected back fine

Engine on, walking out of range and back I got the message that wireless connection failed but tapping retry got right on.

I also for the hell of it reset the radio a few times and no error messages.

I had something similar happen to me but more catastrophic. The radio literally blew up internally- smoke came out the dash. Toyota said it was the radio shorted. But this caused my entire truck to loose any intelligent featues like cc and LTA etc.

They put in a new radio and havent had any issue but the radio is stuck in guest mode. Not sure this is much help but know the radios are sortof f'd up and seem like cheap chinese radios when compared to other nicer units coming out of there.

Also i cant imagine going with an aftermarket now with everything tied to the radio. Skeptical of all this new tech stuff when its this buggy already

This is a known issue, though I don't know that Toyota is really doing anything about it.

When I first got my truck, my wireless connection for Apple CarPlay was pretty finicky. I would "hard reset" the head unit by holding down the power button. If I did that, it would often times cause the ECU to freak out and throw a bunch of codes. Nothing was actually wrong to cause the warning lights (I.E My LTA, Cruise, etc was fine). It's just the ECU freaking out because of hard resetting the H/U.

I showed the Service Manager at my local dealership a long time ago. Like back in early 22. Unlike many issues, this one was easy for me to replicate (repeatedly) in front of them. It would happen consistently either on the 1st or 2nd hard reset. It'll happen now if I go out to my truck and hard reset the H/U. It hasn't been an issue for me since the released the first H/U software update because I haven't had any wireless CarPlay connection issues since that update...which was the only reason I needed to hard reset in the first place.

You know what they say: If it's hurts when you do that...just don't do that anymore. :)

Edit: I don't know how to hard reset on the 14" screen. Is there a physical power button like the 8" has? Maybe it's just a problem with the 8" screens? Hold down your power button to hard reset your H/U. Do that once or twice in a row and it'll probably do the same for others.

I'm not sure why we would reset the radio?
I just go into the big screen and reselect my phone if I left it in the house and the truck is already running. See my phone and I select it.
    AA loads up no problem.
I personally think the hard reset is causing more issues than solving imo.

Early on, I had to hard reset because it wouldn't load my driver profile. No profile...no phone to select. It wouldn't forget my profile...it just wouldn't load it and it wouldn't even show up in the list. Once I did the hard reset, then the profile appeared and automatically loaded as normal. As I mentioned in my post, I haven't had that issue since the head unit software update in mid-2022 so I haven't had to hard reset my radio in probably a year.

Same issue here! LTA and Cruise control malfunctions on so many occasions. I have taken the truck in over 5 times for it to be looked at, the last time they kept it for over a week with absolutely no remedy. I am beyond fed up at this point. I am seriously considering trading it in and taking a bath on the loan just to get rid of the problem child at this point. And don't even get me started with the gas gauge issues!

Mine used to do something similar upon H/U reset. I think mine was traction control and brake error though. It was like it was part of the system reboot, the alert would come and turn off almost as fast as it came on.
I had a software update during my 10k service, and it seems to have stopped.

Not sure if mine ever disables the cruise control but a hard reset of the radio does sometimes cause the lane assist malfunction. Simple fix for me is hold the lane assist button for about 2 seconds and then turn it back on and the issue goes away. It’s annoying but doesn’t seem to hinder anything doing this just seems to be a weird glitch.

I have this happen every single time I've had to reset my radio. First, my radio has issues with freezing and/or not connecting via Bluetooth, just won't respond. Android Auto is also a part of the problem...it sucks. I've gotten to the point where I don't even use Bluetooth anymore or Android Auto, just radio, that's it, yay. Secondly, everything is so interdependent in modern cars, that if one system has an issue, it will cause another system to fail or have issues, it's very annoying...to point I'm considering an older truck, much older (but, my 2015 Tacoma, with the older system, never had a single issue). I've seen this issue in other new Toyotas too, not just the Tundra. Oh well, I live with it for now and try not to reset the radio while the truck is moving. If it needs a reset, I have to turn off the truck and restart it. Fun fun. Get a new Tundra, I said. It'll be fun, I said. First world problems, I guess.
