    Hey All,
I'm going to be putting a camper in the back of my Tundra, which is going to use up whatever little storage I have for recovery gear. Was thinking of putting a roof rack on. Any advice? Do the rubber strips that run along the roof mean that a factory rack can be added?

You can find more info if you search for it, but as far as I know in order to put a rack on the Tundra you will have to drill holes or use a rack that attaches to the door sills somehow.

Was wanting to do the same thing as you. I have a topper I use as a camper and wanted to use the truck roof for things. But I am not into drilling holes. The crazy part is that the Tacoma has factory holes already in place for a rack. Guess they thought a Tundra owner would not want this??:frusty:

Not only do you have to drill holes but the holes are RIGHT on top of the airbags in the roof. There’s no room for error when drilling into a panel with an airbag behind it. In addition when you drill you are introducing a point of entry for moisture and removing the protective paint and zinc coating in that area of the roof.

As mentioned, you will have to drill into your roof and you need to be careful when doing so.

When you say you are putting a camper in back, what do you mean? Are you adding a shell, or an in bed camper? If it's a shell, there are options with reinforced roofs that can have rails and your traction boards could go up there. If you are talking about an actual in bed camper... I suggest you look at a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. Unless you've found a unicorn camper that is ultra-ultra-light.
