Video Games

I built board, CPU and ram when the 3900 was released, I got a lucky hit on Newegg at the time to get a CPU, sold it for 250 profit and got lucky with a second 3 months later. Ran it with my 1080Ti until I was finally allowed to by a 3xxx card... This was the first allocation I got from a manufacturer, wasn't going to pay markups. Never bothered to upgrade, seems a month after I got my 3060, they became generally available again, or would have held out for the 3070 or 3080...


I'll grab that 5950 end of year, and that will hold me until late next year. I am not ready to buy another board and 64GB of ram again. Thus, just a CPU upgrade this year.

I just have two identical looking drives; one had games and the other had backups. I formatted game drive because ssd is on the way and thought I took out the correct drive. When I rebooted, no drive was showing in my copter.

Turns out I pulled the backup drive and blank drive stayed in the pc trunk, hence showing empty. Once I swapped them out, it was joy.

 

I just counted 83 tabs spread across 2 browsers (chromium / firefox). Only thing off since last time is the game.

 

I have less than half that, also between Firefox and Chromium (Brave). I'm probably in the neighborhood of 25 or so at any given time, and I tend to also have a 2nd monitor active with something streaming in the background.

 

How do you remember what is open in which tab? Anything more than ten gets confusing for my brain.

 

I have specific use for each of my browsers. I keep anything google account related on Brave (Chromium), and then all the other stuff like forums/non-google stuff on Firefox. Each of those are set up to open with specific websites, always in the same order. It doesn't take too long to get used to where each tab/site is. Anything else I do from there that doesn't require a login/account and ALL google searches I do in Chrome, which I have set to always start in incognito mode. I also use the "multi-container" plugin for Firefox so that sites can't cross-track cookies, and also the NoScript script blocker to prevent 3rd party scripts from running.

Yeah it sounds complicated, but ever since I've been doing that, I no longer get any annoying google or facebook ads based on my usage.

 

You could disable targeted ads in your google account buried very deep. I've been there.

And they know who you are.

 

Unless things changed in the last 5 or so years since I've been doing the above, they still track you. And besides, that doesn't account for other sites like Facebook, Amazon/IMDB, which all 3 will pick up google searches.

Not that tracking bothers me, I just hate ads.

 

Yep... I was up until 2 playing last night.

Fortunately I telecommute full-time so I don't have to get up too early.

I have a short commute, but I still can't stay up that late on a work night. My brain would just hurt all day and I'd almost be useless.

 

I can survive on 6 every so often, which is what I got, so I'm not doing too bad today. Well, except for the fact that I would rather get paid to play video games, or go mountain biking, or watch movies, or...

 

Similar, I use chromium for some things and FF for most things.

Many of those tabs are inactive things I just want to be able to recall again. 3d prints for instance, there are about 25 thingiverse tabs open. I don't look at them every day, and yes I forget which thing was in which tab, but I pull a bunch down, and go back and look at it when ready to print to see if the author left any info, closing the tab after I get the thing printed (one example). It takes seconds to download the thing, but hours to print it. Bookmarking all those things would be a waste... I'd have thousands of bookmarks and never really make sense of that. So I learned to use resident memory, and dump it when done... Which is also why my system has 20+ days of uptime...

 

Ah. My alarm goes off at 4:45 and I'm usually at the office around 5:30. Being up until 2 AM may as well be a death sentence. LOL

 

@5:30 AM I still have 3 solid hours of sleep left. I think I'd have to be in bed at like 9PM to get up like that every day.

 

Ouch, yeah for sure. I used to do the leave at 5:30 thing when I was younger. That was the reason why I stopped playing RTS games, and fortunately it got me out of the habit.

But I was also up doing some work last night till about 12:45 a.m. I had to keep my eye on a job that takes hours to run, so I fired up some Starfield. Near the end of the job, I had to fix a few things too so that kind'a got me wired and took another hour or so to wind down.

 

Yeah I shoot for 9 or 10. If I can fall asleep it works out decent enough. I generally avoid gaming on work days because it's too easy to lose the time and wind up effing myself.

 

Ah, this totally makes sense. I'll probably do more games in the winter, but with today being the beautiful day that it is, I am planning to do a short motorcycle ride after work. It's just too nice to be inside all day. That, and I spent the last 5 days being a lazy POS and vegged out on Diablo most of the time.

We got the good weather over the weekend, too. We planned/went to a movie Saturday morning (early matinee), but outside of that I was hoping to play Starfield all weekend. But we walked out of the theater to sunny skies and high 60s so we grabbed our mountain bikes and hit the trails. It's been in the high 90s/100s since mid-July, so it was a welcome break from the heat. But since then I've been vegging too Starfield'ing.

 

Thank you, that's very noble of you, gang! Not to be an upsetting voice, but there appears to be glaring lack of fidelity in characters for a 2023 game.

 

I realized I was only about 5 hours into yesterday and started it over as a [FILE NOT FOUND] class and I took my time exploring the pirate planet, etc. Much more enjoyable now after I figured out what I was doing.

 

Probably just that outfit. This is the one I actually use. I think it looks pretty good. Unless you mean... fidelity, fidelity, as in adult themes fidelity lol

Note that this is also 1440p and high settings. 2160/Ultra is too sharp looking for me, doesn't look natural.

 

I ended up restarting as well after I botched up the first character creation. And it was then that I also discovered the [FILE NOT FOUND] and I went with that, too.

 

Definitely the best starting skills.

 

Yeah, I'm glad I chose it.

That's actually why I restarted because I didn't like the look. And I'm glad I did.

 

That was me also. I didn’t like the Ronin traits. Ballistics is much better than stabby stabby.

New drive came in today. I thought box was empty; totally forgot how light Sadie are.



I plugged her in and after initializing, ran benchmark. On the left is my 10 yrs old crucial container ing widows and the one on the right is pny cs900 2tb.

 

Day off. I hit the gym early and took care of a few things, and now I have a pot of coffee and nothing but Starfield until tonight. I also game in an 5.4.2 home theater setup, and nobody home so I have it cranked. When those engines fire up... just wow.

 

Fiance wanted to game mobile, so she bought a new MSI Pulse 15 for herself. Nothing wrong with her previous desktop, but she can't really cart it around to her folks for the weekend, you know? I could dig up the exact specs if anyone's interested, built it in 2019. Believe it's running a Ryzen 5 3600X, AIO cooler in a SFF Cougar case, Gigabyte mini-ITX motherboard with an RTX 2080.
