Oh, I love the best gen Tacos too. But I like them with lots of luxury options, the smallest engine possible, and 2WD ... because I want to do unholy things to them, then cruise around. I wish I had one now. Almost everything in my area is 4WD, and I specifically want a '98 for the "best face".

Whatcha getting for the new shell?

Actually im building my own wedge pop up camper. Just need to sell this one first and have a couple buddies over for beers to help me lift the new one onto the truck, haha. Been working on it for a little over 2 months now.

Its definitely not finished yet, but getting close enough to install on the truck at least.

Finally got around to cleaning the driver’s seatbelt since it was pretty dirty from years of abuse. Was only able to clean it up about 80% with dishwashing soap and a scrub brush. Not sure what else to use here for embedded dirt.

I'm all in on 98-00 tacos. Buddy had a new 98 ext cab 4x4 v6 5 speed in HS. Loved that truck. I have wanted one since I was in HS. I think they are better looking than our best gens, just not as functional size wise. Before I dig a hole here, our best gens are the superior truck. Hands down.

You got a wide wheel, I'd go wider on the tires

    285/70r17 perhaps

I may end up there. Taking a chance on 275/70r17 first. Maybe be losing $50-75/wheel on that choice, but we'll see.

Mickey Thompson Baja Legend EXP, 275/70r17. Already committed to them, paid up as of today. Waiting on arrival to get installed and aligned.
If I don't like them, I'll switch up to Baja Boss in 285/70r17 - IIRC, neither of these tires come in the other's sizes, hence the two different Mickeys.

I wasn't stoked about the stretch on the 275, but with my wheel width, 17x9" and -12mm (vs. the typical 17x8.5"), potential rub risk being "uncharted territory" apparently, I'm holding off on 285. The shop I'm going with is pretty sure 285 will work out, and I suspect they'll probably wheel and deal with me if I don't like the 275, since it's a popular tire size. We shall see.

Well someone stripped the original 02 sensor…
So I had to cut the bolts off the mid section to get the exhaust off. Then I broke a stud off the manifold.
Anyone broken one of these? It looks like the stud will come out

These nuts will rust away to literally nothing.
I had to use needle nose vise grips to get mine off.
Replaced them with stainless if I remember right. I have a pic but terrible signal right now but mine had one missing and the other wasn't far off.

That stud should just be pressed in, just need to find a way to pound it out If I had to guess. Never messed with one myself.

Do you have any pics of the diy wedge? I’ve been thinking about making one for the longest time, heck it was part of the reason why I sold my taco haha

I didn't realize how much tires have gone up in price.. I just priced out 4 of the MT Baja Boss. $1,911 after tax and installation.

    • In 2019 I paid $1,104 for five(5) KO2's.
    • Today it would cost me $1,938 for 5 KO2's
    • They have increased 75%
    Absolute bullshit.

I don't understand how the hell you're paying so much? There was maybe a 10% difference in the two tire styles when I looked. This is the new tires, mount TPMS in rims, mount and balance tires, TPMS programming from scratch, and custom alignment at the shop near me. Same shop wanted $1900 for 9 hours labor to install the lift I did this weekend, it's not like they're the cheapest place in town by any stretch of the imagination...

    upload_2023-9-6_14-21-41.png

Don't fool yourself with mindless scapegoat distractions, it's purely capitalism in the form of corporate greed. Nothing more, nothing less. We need to start blaming the real source: Big business/corporations. But since it's not something to discuss openly on the forum, feel free to hit me up in PM if you want to get into the nitty gritty details.

kinda. I remember reading about this last year how the us was gonna charge extra for 'dirty' tire factories to ship their tires here, as if those tires from shyna werent just gonna pass those fees to the consumers. Price those same tires in mexico & see if they're cheaper. But yea, then all the clean tires mfg's figured out they could raise their prices by the same amount.
