TRD Pro rigid foglight fix

I called the local 4WP location in Tucson yesterday. Got put on hold for 10+ minutes, hung up called back and on hold another 10+ minutes. I gave up. I will get them from SDHQ next week while I’m in Tempe.

 

I did this about 2 months ago and now the passenger side fog light is pulling through the back of the bezel into the bumper. has anyone else had this problem? I didn't pull the zip tie particularly tight, but its pulling through. i am going to take it back apart this weekend and try to figure out what is happening to it. if anyone else had this problem and already knows the fix that would be great. Also, if anyone knows where to find some schematics of how those are mounted in the bumper regularly, i would appreciate it.

the right side of the light i believe sits in "push tab" type snap latch... you should be able to push it back in...

 

Yeah, that’s not fair. I got all excited about a simple and cheap fix to something annoying and now I have three colors on my Amazon wishlist. It’s the wireless charger all over again...been living life w/o these until now, but now I cannot live without.

This forum needs some logic that slaps a few $$ onto the title as soon as someone posts a link to Amazon or accessory supplier. Otherwise the entire forum is a “Read at your own financial risk” zone.

 

They do firm up the light in the housing. Tight fit. Don't know that I'll be snapping them on and off though.

 

Thanks for posting this. I'm a new 2020 Tundra owner and didn't know this was an issue until I saw your video (I haven't taken it out at night on bumpy roads yet). This is now on my to-do list for the weekend, although I might have to borrow your son if that's okay - he seems like a real TRD "Pro!"

 

Did this happen when new or after driving it for a while. My 2020 has 1600 miles on it now and the Rigid fogs are tight.

Confirmed! What a simple fix! Just make sure that you are using the zip ties on the outside bracket of the fog light. Not the inside. Originally I had used the inside part of the fog light towards the motor and it was warping the plastic insert and not sitting correctly when tightening. Thanks for the help guys! Great? Why? Because of the lies and hyperbole click-bait BS?

Dude predicted $10 gas a quarter of a year ago, and claimes he gets (without thinking about it) 'an average' well above 18 MPG in his TRD Pro Tundra... and goes on to say he pulls down 20 MPG easy when he is thinking about it.

I mean, this is the kind of guy selling speakers from the back of a windowless van at 7-Eleven, or trying to sell you his 'super valuable' watch because he needs money after running out of gas... and OP is packaging his points like he's a member of the intelligentsia. The fact that he has 'actual citation' that leads to this means dude has no idea on how to vet info:




The existence of the video above makes his channel straight up fear porn. Without trip reports, dude is a 'clear liar', that's the bottom line (pics or it didn't happen). Do you wonder why there are no 20mpg threads here? It's because no TRD Pro can do it.

The fact that he has no issues parroting actual conmen/career criminals... that makes him a 'dangerous' liar. I won't touch the Qanon stuff, but it's there too, just a heads up on that cringe.

Hopefully his DIY video here isn't as insane as his trends analysis, or out of this world mileage 'claims'.

 

I had no idea. Oh well. I don’t follow the guy anyway. What I can tell you is that when I bought my 2021 TRD Pro and drove on gravel roads in the evening I can see my fog lights vibrating on the road. This is a simple DIY fix and it does work.

 

Yea, I'm looking for my zip ties right now. 3k miles in, and the vibration is too much. Never even been off the pavement, but the lights still shake like crazy. That said, it's a very small price to pay for such a well built vehicle.

 

If you’ve never taken off your bumper caps before it should take you an hour or less to do both sides. Once you figure out the first side the second side is easy. Just make sure that you use black zip ties. They are more UV resistant and durable than the standard zip ties you would use for A/V equipment or Electrical.

 

It's not just the Rigids. My regular OEM LED fogs bounce enough that I thought something was flickering until I realized how loose they were in the bumper.

 

Maybe Toyota fixed the problem on my 21 LunaRock Pro. Mine are tight as hell. No movement even if you check them they don’t move.

 

That’s good! The best test is to drive down a dirt/gravel road at night. You’ll notice it if it’s loose.

 

Yeah with them being so good and tight I held off in replacing them with amber diode fog lights the Pro’s. Not sure if I want to touch them.

 

Rigid Industries makes a Amber LED removable cover that’s compatible with our LED’s. I have them on my truck and and can take them off whenever I want to go back to white.

 

Is it just the rigid light that shakes? Or does the bezel it sits in shake too? Maybe I’ll have to post a video of me shaking the fog light on my truck so people can see if it’s the same as theirs

Ok cool, yeah I meant is this what yours was like before you fixed it just wanted to make sure I was having the same problem as other people and not something else going on.

 

Bringing this back from the dead. Just picked up a 2021 TRD Pro and the fog light bezels rattle pretty bad. Is the cable tie bandaid still the best fix or has someone developed a product to secure the bezels to the bumper covers? Seems to me this will just get worse over time. What a horrible design...

 

Cable tie still seems to be the easiest and most popular fix...

Another option that I've seen is to use a Rigid Amber snap cover...

Going this route, you'd simply snap the cover over the existing fog light pushing the clips over the fog light and between the light and the bezel which eliminates the gap and vibration issues between the light and the housing. Just note that although you'll get an amber light output w/the covers, you'll also have a slight reduction in light output due to the extra layer of plastic.

... or you can upgrade the lights to the Rigid D Series 'Pros' using a white or amber fog light and have a significant improvement in light output over the OE Rigid lights and mount them using a bracket as depicted below and never worry about it again

Thanks for all the info! Most of the movement is the bezels in the bumper cover. The light seems fairly secure within the bezel. I'll cable tie them up tonight and then I'll be looking at the upgrade light and mounting solution you referenced.
