Me neither, but if I had to refer to myself with nouns and self-identify and stuff, I'd either refer to myself as 'fartself' or 'studself.'

 

No Man's Sky is 50% off on Steam too...

I'm working today (although I telecommute). But we got early release for the long weekend... but that was like 2 hours ago. And I'm still not playing yet.

Meanwhile, all this space talk gave me the urge to start a new playthrough of my own poor mans starfield. enter: alien isolation again. No screenshots this time since you've seen them all from my previous run. Playing on hard now.

I worked on the dining room today but I did take a half hour break to play a little Starfield.

 

Y'know what bugs me a little. A space flying game with multiple planets and no re-entry when approaching a planet. I think it would have been so epic to have that incorporate into the landing procedure.

But I guess it isn't a space flight simulator. Not many casual players would want to sit through 30 minute approach. A short cutscene and you're off running to your next objective.

 

Gang, I ordered me a new drive. Its digital!
She's DRAMless, but should be fine for my purposes unless I start copying big files.

My current gaming library is spread out across two 1tb rusty drives while windows sits on dedicated crucial ssd(from like 10yrs ago)



I was contemplating on getting another crucial with onboard cache, but decided this'll do.

 

I gotta hand it to creative assembly studio. I'm at the spot where alien just ate Axel, the British dude and you call the train and it takes forever to arrive with ominous music. Still mildly terrifying. When you played through the game and it still gives you anxiety, you know horror is done right.

 

I grabbed one of these myself a couple weeks ago. Then I forgot about it. Then I went to preload Starfield Wednesday night and was trying to decide which game to uninstall to make space. Then I remembered I bought the drive and installed it. ID10T.

 

Keep an eye not to starve that GPU of pcie lanes. Although theres still plenty of bandwidth I guess.

 

That's the only reason why I've never gotten one until now. Decided to give one a try since they were cheap for 2 TB.

 

Thats not impossible but I find it very hard to do on a gaming PC. I have 3 m.2 drives + 2 HDD's, 4 USB ports permanently populated, +2 game controllers on occassion, no lane starving whatsoever.
Even my old PC (still have it as the bedroom pc) handled all that without issue.

Unlesss you populate all drives (sata, m.2), all PCI slots and USB ports front and rear, then you just might... but I doubt it.

 

I definitely think there's hyped fear around it. I mean are you really going to notice with typical use? I've been building PCs since the 90s, and every single time I've read about how something can cause a bottleneck and decided to try it myself, the results were never convincing. The only time I've seen throughput bottlenecks is with bluetooth, a few times when I was under-powered and had too much crap connected, or when hardware was outdated.

But that said, I am keeping my OS off the m.2 and just using it for games. But laziness also has a lot do with that.

 

Man, labour day sales are such a scam. I looked it up today, on *labour day*, and price went up.

 

Gang, I nuked my system partition and started over. But then I realized, my gpu underfoot was stored on that partition and now she's gone.I'm a little upset not remembering to back it up because it's very unintuitive to set up the curve. It's like "left means right" type stuff.

Never mind, false alarm, it was the wrong drive that I took out.

Which should carry me till Christmas next year when I upgrade the Graphics card. I am seriously considering AMD card this time too... yes its a small performance hit at the top end. I run Linux, that top end is windows tests, on windows games. I never see those frame rates on things. I get clear comfortable gaming on my linux box. Had I an AMD card (open drivers) I could play starfield. It will run on my steamdeck (AMD GPU), but that thing is slow compared to my desktop

This Screenshot was running MW5 with a handful of kickass mods that really beef up memory requirement, a ton of browser tabs, cura, steam, notepad++ with half a dozen tabs resident in memory, and a 4G VM running in the background.

There's mafia definitive edition for $14 on epicgames. I'm itching to give it a try. I've seen a playthrough and it was quite decent with good story. Graphics are nice too!



Should I?

 

The CPU was a drop-in upgrade Spring of 2021 since it was still on the same socket as my previous Ryzen. I also upgraded the GPU at the same time. Waiting for the next series Nvidia GPUs and I'll probably do a CPU and MB upgrade at the same time.

 

^^I only recently doubled my RAM from 16 to 32. I'd been getting by, but Diablo 4 pushed RAM usage to 90% capacity with nothing else running. But even before that, some games were already pushing into the high 80s, low 90s with a few apps running. Now I'm purposefully leaving browser windows with multiple tabs open and have other crap running while gaming just to see if I can get usage over 50% lol.

No idea what this is, nothing in the DLC list that I can find.

 

Perhaps it's for a future dlc, like a placeholder. Either that or patch a little borken.

 

The first DLC is included with the premium edition, but there wasn't anything in the DLC section for the game. I wasn't sure if there was something else I wasn't aware of, either.

 

You need to get some system for upgrades if they are this cumbersome for you!
