What’s wrong with the gearing for a stock tundra with 10 speed, it runs and tows great

Wouldn’t it be nice to have some options? 3.23s get tall pretty quick if you upsize tires and/or tow heavy, even with a 10 speed.

Toyota has never done that , just not how they do it. I haven’t had any problems,?but I’m not a 35” load e tire dude anymore either or a tow 10k with a half ton type use either , so it’s fine the way it is for my use

But the second gen was a 4.30 right? So plenty of gear even with the lower top gear. In any case, as long as it hauls the groceries home it’s good enough for you right?

That’s great for the Raptor! But bad for the Pilot. My wife’s 2020 Pilot will pull up to 32 mpg running 60 mph on the highway. On a summer road trip fully loaded with 5 adults and gear we averaged 27.7 mpg over a 3100 jaunt from WI to Banff and back running up to 90 mph at some points.

If you say so, I didn’t mean it as an insult. You bought a certain vehicle to do a certain job, I needed something different to do a different job.

Did your cross shop the Ridgeline?

Sure did, I put a 6 pack of Zima in the bed of the ridgeline with a pack of jolly ranchers and it was overloaded but the tundra could do that, I didnt need the monster 1/2 ton towing domination of a f-150 tremor , so I settled for this

I don’t even tow all the much except to the the coast a few times a year, usually boat sits in the backyard.

But I dared to suggest Toyota could do something better with the Tundra and that never goes well…

    Nice set up!

and there are plenty of things Toyota can do better or offer but multiple gear options when they have a good set up and 10 speed that works fine in most applications isn’t near the top of the list imo , that’s why I asked what was wrong with the current setup as it works fine

maybe ford should offer less as the powerboost was clunky , it can work both ways

There's nothing wrong with the Toyota setup. Between the F150 and Tundra, they are interchangeable to me. There are a few things I like on the F150 that are missing on the Tundra, however that wouldn't make me rule out the Tundra. However, the main question will be "What's the price?"

My main gripe is really with Toyota's sales model and not so much with the Tundra. That's what will sway me towards the F150 in the end (I think).

Do you mean the allocation system ?

it’s different for sure , I was still able to get what I wanted as I just told my dealer what I wanted and call me when you have it

my ram I was able to custom order

inthink the build planning and consistency is why they do the allocation system which has historically lead to much better reliability over the big three , we’ll see what happens this time around , the beginning of the launch was not smooth that’s for sure

That to me sounds like a thing you’ll have to deal with for just one day vs living with the truck for years

Buy an F150 and then you can post on Ford Forums.

Yes, the allocation system. It's similar to GM's but even worse.

I don't quite follow. If a dealer doesn't have the allocation for a particular configuration of a Tundra how is it a "one day" thing.

I didn't realize I couldn't post on a forum until I've bought a certain vehicle. I've been posting on the F150Gen14 forums for a bit for research purposes too.

I have zero issues with my raptor and have better camaraderie on tundra forum. I’m a programmer so a lot of time spent online. I’m super active in like every “insert model year + model owner” Facebook page

I’m in the spec so when I shop for vehicles I don’t forget the specs of each trim and all the interchangeable packages and options. Prob why I have top contributor badge on the crv, pilot, tundra, sequoia and lane cruiser pages

Why shouldn't he? Maybe someone's looking to acquire a Corvette after a Mustang DH?

That's normal for someone who is not a fanboi.

I posted here when I had an F150 to see if a Tundra was a fit. I bought one.
The F150 is maybe the largest thread on a Gen3 forum.
Toyota Gen3 is sticky. The F150 and Gen 2 guys just can't get enough.

This thread has more turned into a place to just talk about AAG for us non owners. I’ve owned 3 tundras in the last few years and have helped a ton on here. I like the people here. I have no brand bias so o find it easy to give advice and even help people buy them. In the last week I sold a sequoia, tundra, and crv. Sorry this thread bothers you. I think you can unsubscribe from notifications
