I carried my buddy’s Chevelle SS 454 to a restoration shop for a full renewal. It was about a 70 mile trip with hills. The truck did good.71528027586__5EFE9FE0-3E14-4D1C-9C38-F0EE99EAF8FF.jpg

It means everything is original, the vin number matches all the part numbers etc .

U-haul makes a kickass little car hauler, the only thing I would be worried about would be the condition of the tires.

Basically the VIN plate matches numbers stamped into the frame/chassis, and stamped into the engine.

A lot of people run around saying their car is an "SS" because someone slapped a 396 or 454 in it at some point. But it didn't come that way from the factory. Having a numbers-matching SS in either flavor adds significant value, it's proof things are that much closer to all-original.

Even worse, some people slap SS badges on their vehicle with any drivetrain in it. That tends to be the case over here a lot with hood-dozers.

    PS - current lift status.

Back here again with this gd mf pita UBJ. OEM cotter-thingy is holding the UBJ into UCA, before someone asks wtf is up with that. Easier to have it fixed while pulling caliper and dust cap, because I'm following @txagg advice to just pull the damn knuckle at this point. Sadly I apparently lack a 35mm deep well, and nothing close in standard, only 1-1/8, 1-1/4 and 1-3/4 (I think 1-3/8 would be close ... womp womp).

I've tried damn near everything safe to pitch the knuckle out enough to get my BJ press clamped on it, to no avail, fender flare says NOPE! Granted, the TRE is still a limiting factor as shown, but frankly, I know you don't hafta pull too damn hard on the CV to pop it out and it's really not that much more work to loosen the LBJ and pop the VC nut off and carry the knuckle to a bench, so that's what's gonna happen. May actually get one side done today if the wife ever brings the car back. I refuse to bike to the store

My location U-Haul wouldn't let me use one of their car dollies because the straps were frayed. They got me another car dolly with brand new straps

BFH on what? It's sitting right there on the floor. What is your thought? Were you able to just hammer yours out? I whacked at it a few times w/o any really luck last time. Granted, I was sick, but ....

I just finished lunch, and have no idea where my better 3/4 is with the car. Went to drop off the oldest kid for a sleepover about 1.5hrs ago, haven't seen her since.

No, I think you misunderstand me, and it's why I mentioned the OEM cotter.

The UBJ is free from the UCA. Look closely. It just has a pin thru the cotter hole to hold it up for another point of stability while I pulled the caliper and dust cap.

My issue is, The knuckle, with nothing attached except the TRE, axle, and LBJ, will absolutely NOT pull out of the fenderwell far enough to get a standard-size balljoint press clamp and its driver on it, at least not with fender flares attached, and I'm not pulling the fender flares just to see if it'll work.

I actually just realized something I hadn't tried now I've got this new kit and the caliper is out of the way. I haven't tried flipping the press upside down. I still doubt it'll work b/c of how the press is designed but I'm willing to give it a shot while I wait to go to AZ or Advance.

That's next. Unbolting the LBJ, axle, and just taking the whole gd knuckle out. Hoof it over to the bench, press that bastard out, press the SPC part in, and reinstall.

I doubt I'll have time to do the driver's side today. Will knock out tomorrow, hopefully faster than this debacle, because I won't be wasting time trying to do stuff that's just not possible.

I've got two different sets, and both sets I checked out at AutoZone were essentially the same as everything on Amazon - all are using a c-clamp setup with 6" mouth, 9" tall. My slightly-larger new set has a 7" mouth and 10" tall. All are using the same threaded press shaft, same length and threading.

Dunno what to tell ya. I can't even jam them in there all the way, not even while forcing the LCA downward with everything else disconnected. Would need to force way more than I'm comfortable with, knowing I need to simultaneously try to hold the BJ press in place etc.

For real! I took my trailer over to his place to pick up the car, and the chevelle was too wide to fit it. The uhaul rental was an emergency substitute, but it worked out ok. The car is a legit SS with a warranty replacement Yenko 427. I would much rather have had my trailer with actual brakes and tie down points, but it didn’t get to be that easy. We made it work though.

I’m a Mopar guy, but it sounded incredible when he fired it up! The shop ran the numbers while we were there and verified it’s a true SS car.

FU, UBJ. Off to dinner. New kit did me about 0% good. I ended up using my old HF press with the receiver cup from the new kit.

Yeah, this video is pretty straight forward. Got to the point where I'm ready to disconnect the lines and pull the whole case out in the morning.

Also re-installed one of my backseats since I need it next week. Fridge and platform out as well.

Well, at least I made some progress today, with plenty of unscheduled, hours-long interruptions.

I should've installed the gd coilover while I had the knuckle out. Hindsight is 20/20. Tomorrow I get to choose whether to unbolt the LBJ or the TRE to let the LCA swing down enough to bolt up the coilover. Fun times. It's glaringly clear either (A) having kids has hampered my mechanical skills or (B) lowering things is a hell of a lot easier than lifting things. I can't remember the last time I had this much of a pain in the ass trying to do something so basic, suspension-wise.

Hey, while I'm thinking about it, what are you fellow SPC users doing about the ABS sensor bracket, just bending the tab out so it fits the round bar of the upper? Not exactly a "clean" fit.
