If he’s non-JBL there’s already a turn on lead at the factory amp. Otherwise, absolutely yes.

I was going to run a turn on wire when I route my RCAs because I'm currently using auto turn on through speaker level to my current Alpine amp, bur I was just thinking that since I'm using the stock connectors at the amp location, I should be able to just re-pin the amp turn on in the stock connector (I think I actually kept the wires when I de-pinned for the aftermarket amp). That being said, it may just be easier to tape a wire to the RCAs and pull that under the carpet along with them.

There’s a version of the non-JBL that still has an amp under the passenger front seat

That’s what I was getting at - it’s pretty rare to see any without an amp at all. I can’t remember which Entune level came without it, but I’m pretty sure most SR5 had the amp.

I have an amp. So it is ok to plug the rcas in to the head unit and run the turn on wire and just leave them not plugged to anything? I can just leave it all under the console for now if that works.

Cap or otherwise cover the ends of them, but yeah. You should be able to disable the amp preouts in the HU settings (should be default) until you need them

Somebody mentioned an Enfig Mic to put in the OEM location. I'm going to order one for my 4Runner but they only seem to offer it for that vehicle and the Taco. If whomever bought one and if it worked, can you let me know? I'm trying to save on shipping. :)

Looking at it, it should fit in the spot where the mic is up through 2018 (or 19) in the overhead console. The 20/21 (and maybe 19) had the mic above the driver’s head in a separate grill in the headliner but they left the old opening in the center console.

I just ordered one to test it out.

I've been going thru these threads and trying to clear things up. I currently have an appt next week to get the Apline 509 installed by BestBuy, using the Metra harness. If I don't use the Maestro RR Module, am I just going to be missing the vehicle guages and settings? I'm okay without that stuff, I'm just looking to make sure I retain all the stuff I currently have...steering wheel controls, USBs, ect. I have a '21 SR5. Thx for any help, this crap is mega confusing to me.

Here are the 4 parts that BB is installing: Metra dash kit, Metra harness, Metra antenna adapter, Metra camera harness.

You'll lose the steering wheel controls without the Maestro I believe. No need for the Maestro RR2 unless you really want the Bluetooth, regular RR saves you some coin and takes a single USB cable flash to make work properly. I regret spending the extra on my RR2 Bluetooth because their app was pure junk and I ended up using a hard-line USB anyway, which did admittedly work wonderfully.

Began my install as well about an hour ago. @TRDFerguson how does the overhead console come down? I removed the two small screws and the console moves a bit but I can seem to figure out what else is holding it up.

So far everything has been removed. Installed the usb/hdmi port and the rear dash cam. Working on the front dash cam and microphone now and then will start to connect everything up in the dash last.

Did the rear camera come with the bracket? I ordered one off of eBay but it won’t be here until next week.

No, it doesn't come with a bracket. I brought one from the dashcam store. I'll grab the part number for you shortly. It's a generic bracket, but it works well without any modification. There are two lengths, I went with the short one which was perfect.

as far as my experience with reinstalling the upper panel. I pull the from the truck, reattach them to the overhead console and then just pop it back in to the truck…

Well, I quit for today due to running out of time. I did get all of the wiring run up to the dash so hopefully not more than an hour to finish it up later. I installed the rear dash camera and ran the wires up to the head unit. The Alpine microphone is installed in the factory location thanks to the idea from @TRDFerguson. The front dash camera is mounted and the wiring for that along with the microphone was run under the headliner and down the A pilar, then under the dash and over to the radio opening. I removed the FRAC harness since it will no longer be needed. The USB/HDMI outlet was installed as well. All that I need to do now is plug everything back in, but I still need to crimp the terminals on for the dash cam harness and wire up the bypass. I need to look up the wiring for the front camera also. I believe the red wire coming off the RCA plug will now just be connected to the 12V accessory wire to power it up since the FRAC harness is no longer being used.

    Couple more pics.

Ho Lee Fuk, that was a PITA. Been at it all day and that's way too long. Thing that held me up the most was finding space to run 3 sets of RCAs, there is 0 room in the dash. Took me a few hours (with beer breaks) and I tore most of the dash apart to no avail finally I remembered that little panel above the glove box, popped it off and a clear shot to behind the radio. I still have some trim pieces that don't want to cooperate, but I'll fuck with them tomorrow. In the end, I still need to reinstall my amp, put the seat back, finish running a couple of wires, do the settings. put the rest of the dash and trim back on, put tools away and button up details. BTW, shoving all that shit up there (hehe) sucks, wires and modules everywhere with little room.

So, in the end, it's in, the truck didn't catch on fire, and I still have more to do. But for now, I'm beat, need a shower (still fucking hot in the garage) and am going to drink many more beers and watch the U of A's season opener.
