Our new used 2020 Sequoia is arriving in a couple of weeks. It will not be a daily driver, we will be driving it on weekend trips and camping. What do you suggest to keep the mpgs on the lower side, other then not having a lead foot? Smart Alec responses are OK.

EDIT:Of course, it should be increasing the MPGs and lowering the cholesterol. I often get these two confused. :)

It's a heavy vehicle so mpgs really isn't going to matter.

If lowering the MPGs is what you're after, just throw some big, heavy wheels and tires on and keep the throttle buried. .

I don't understand. Is there some kind of grammatical or contextual error? Should you he striving for higher mpg?

You're going to want the lightest wheels and tires you can find. Probably TE37s and some P load highway tires. Michelin defenders are good. Whatever you go with, the key is tall, skinny. And light.

Slam it to the ground SOS Performance makes a lowering kit, that's a good start.

Intake an exhaust are next. You want an intake that'll trick your engine into running leaner. A purpose-built headers-back exhaust can get you a couple mpgs on top of that. I'd start with Dirty Deeds.

A tune focused on gas mileage and a pedal controller on eco will help some more.

Regearing to the smallest gears you can will help some more.

Mash on the pedal, big wheels, big lift, carry all the tools you'll never need, and armor the shit out of your truck.... then maybe,,,, just maybe you'll hit 8 MPG.

I get about 15-16 on my 21 sequoia pro regularly. i have a 25 mile drive to work one way, then pick up the kiddos from schools/daycares after. i've seen 17 and a little higher when i had a week of not picking them up....but not much other than that.
i have the michelin ltx at2 on mine now that they came with. i believe it's a 52# tire. my next tires are going to be the cooper discoverer at3 in a slightly larger size that will be 54#'s each.
    cruise control is your friend.
keep the extra cargo stuff inside or on the back to reduce drag and wind noise. if you must use the rack, try to get a nice cargo carrier thats sleek and it will reduce drag and wind noise.
proper tire inflation helps. i generally keep mine around the 38# range and it seems to do better than others i've ran it at (for this tire set up at least)

I’ve driven one for a couple years now. I get 15-16 most days, doesn’t matter if it’s in town or highways. The best we ever saw was a cross country trip where we just drove 36 hours straight. I think we did a stretch on 70 through Colorado and pulled 19mpg on one tank.

It's not just the lead foot driving style that drinks gas.

Avoiding unnecessary braking also helps, the easiest example is when approaching red lights. If you can see a red up ahead, rather than approaching at speed and then braking to stop, let off the gas and let the vehicle slow down with the ideal situation being that you don't come to a stop but time it so that the light has turned green by the time you get there and then you can accelerate gently away, thus saving the extra power needed to get the vehicle moving from a dead stop. In the UK we practice defensive driving so no-one thinks slowing down is odd, for the asshole who only has full stop and full speed ahead in his head your actions might result in his being butthurt or, worse yet, slamming into your tailgate.

Buying a stick shift can make quite a difference but obviously you have to know how to use it properly.

Edit: Oh, and turning off the A/C in slow moving traffic also helps, although dying from overheating is probably a trifle severe of a measure to save a few pennies in gas.

I wonder about tire weight and/or size.
Lift didnt affect mpg on my Tundra.
    New tires did.

No idea if it was size or weight most at fault. New tires were 16 lb heavier each and almost 2 inches larger overall. Dropped me a few mpg. (I did account for odometer difference due to tiresize in the mpg calculation)

Bump your tire pressure up to the point a toothpick on the road sends you to the chiropractor then add 5 more psi.

    No.

Dinosaurs and the other life forms that eventually turned into oil were sinful, and evil. They need to be punished in the fiery hell of internal combustion.

It is our duty to see their punishment carried out.

I've noticed ethanol free gas gives me a 2-3 mpg increase when I ran a couple of tanks through it but that stuff isn't cheap!

I used to run almost exclusively ethanol free. I lived about a mile from a station that had it, and the cost difference was only $0.09 per gallon. Now its much more and the math doesn't make it worth it

You should really consider using the Sequoia as your daily driver. The gas stations will love you for doing so, trust me I know from first hand experience. My favorite method of killing my gas mileage is always driving with Tow/Haul mode on, and putting it on S mode instead of drive. Drive the Sequoia like a muscle SUV that it is. Accelerate spiritedly and listen to that 5.7 roar. with the smell of rubber from the slight burn out. Not only will your Sequoia use up your gas quicker, but it will wear out your tires quicker as well (killing two birds with one stone). Not sure what state you live in, but never go 65. Always drive in the passing lane as if your girlfriend texted you that her parents are not home, but make sure you are not reckless and watch for highway patrol.

Not a serious answer BTW. Just thought I would join in the fun. Just enjoy your Sequoia man. The Sequoia was built to be a gas guzzler no matter how you drive. You may even see the gas gauge go down just sitting idling lol. You are going to love it! Congratulations.
