It's already there. When prices of everything from housing to food to cars go up double digit percentages year after year, the least necessary are going to drastically slow in sales first. EVs are just more obvious because beyond the economy issues there's a large portion of the market that isn't convinced they're a good bet to take as a replacement for a petrol car anyway.

Hot garbage. The day will come when they are the standard, but we're likely at least a decade away, if not more.

Until then, PT Barnum said it right....

EV's have a market. For myself if I had to work another 10 years, I would buy one. No more oil servicing, just tires and brakes. When I get a little older, a Tesla will be a serious consideration.

Companies are offering benefit packages like 2 free hours of charging per day or front row parking.

We have a member on here that was given a Tesla M3 as a perk. Now he is a high valued employee that earns his salt every day (obviously)...but that's still pretty bad ass.

Some situations that EVs don't make sense:

Cold climates EV don't perform as well.

Limited charging. There are a lot of older homes in this country that only have 60-100A services. Upgrading to a 150-200A service can get very expensive and negate the benefits. My manager has a Tesla S something and used to just get his free supercharging on the way home everyday. Recently he installed a home charger since the public SC's have been busy and wait times are getting a little frustrating.

    good point.

We've got 21k on our Tesla MS...with ZERO maint.
    ok..I filled the wiper fluid.

EV's are fun...but, not quite ready for prime time. in urban/suburban areas, they are ideal.

and it's nice to be able to beat EVERY car on the road in the 1/4 mile.

with that said...all cars/homes, etc are about to take a whooping. rough seas ahead.

    EV inventory..pshhh

Home inventory is about to do strange things.

I'm not an economist but, something wicked this way come.

keep your eyes on Fuel. It will get manipulated up to - let's say - just before Nov-24.

EV's are in a weird place right now. with the industry adopting Tesla charging network, the free market sidestepped the Gov.

bad ju-ju when the Gov gets sidestepped.

I reckon the Tesla network will be finagled into a "utility" status & Gov will step in to "help".

As I sit here in the dark, waiting for Hurricane Idalia to pass, I wonder what a major evacuation will look like when everybody is driving an EV. People are definitely gonna die in the clusterf*ck when thousands of EV's are waiting for a charge, or simply bricking in the middle of the already packed Interstate highways.

And no one's been able to explain to me where all the electricity is supposed to come from, in the prophesied utopia of 98% EV's. Certain powerful factions are eternally against any and all forms of power generation, and the grid is already stretched in most places. Google tells me there are currently 290 MILLION cars on the road in the US. I'd like to know how many nuke plants would be required to replace all that gasoline with electrical power, and how many decades (or centuries?) it would take to build them all, in this age of infinite red tape and environmental quagmire.

EV's, as Gov mandates, are a grift. All of the issues you state are valid.

instead of wind/solar, we should build NatGas genset for the next 10 years. then, as those are getting built, build a wad of nuclear plants.

this green initiative is short sighted at best....deadly at worst.

    politics aside.

when we start foolin' around with massive infrastructure changes, we have to consider our present position.

strangling O&G to move to "green", is going to put a lot of people in harm's way.

hurricanes are a fine example. I get that most cars have about 300 miles in a tank of gas. Most Tesla EV's carry the same range. Gas stations use electricity to pump the gas....plan accordingly.

lather on a weird economy, with all the known metrics pointing south....we better hunker down.

Looking at EV inventories is just one variable that is telling us you better have squirreled away some nuts.

I charge overnight into the morning at home, on my 14-50 breaker. Cheaper rates to charge overnight. In the past year (Sept 22- current) I have spent a whipping $148 in total charging at home.

We have cash on hand, and a mortgage fixed at 2.25% and no other debt at all. We’re both secure in our jobs, in my case I’m a RR engineer with almost 17 years of total seniority and any cuts to staffing go from the bottom up.

We await the coming market correction also known as a recession with anticipation for the opportunities it will present for the prepared.

What I can't understand is my utility company subsidizing LED lights and energy star appliances at the same time they are demolishing a coal fired power plant. Add to that the . gov push for electric vehicles.

I do agree that each hurricane evacuation will bring more and more chaos. Electric companies are forced to act in a proactive manner by shutting down the grid prior to storms.

At least I can store gas in cans. With 7.5 gallons in cans I can evacuate the Gulf Coast and drag my trailer 350-400 miles. I can set up camp and if the generator is used wisely go about 4 days.

Despite people around me in the real world and online swearing this is the thing of the future I have maintained it is a fad that will die away without government support.

The real canary in the coal line for me was Ford making a big show of separating out EV division earnings and reporting them separately. I think this is because they believe EVs will cause another round of bankruptcies, and this time they will take that paper trail to the feds and demand a check with no strings attached for pressuring them to sell an unprofitable product. I think CEOs of all the major automakers if you got them alone at the bar with a few drinks would tell you this will bring on another round of bankruptcies and bailouts. And that this market will eventually be ceded back to dedicated EV builders once the major companies are no longer under government pressure to participate.

What's Toyotas progress on EVs? Last I heard they were reluctant to move their eggs from the hybrid market. Which BTW in my opinion is the way to go.

and look at all the EV's...the only viable entity is Tesla. all others are in some gov supported delayed failure.
