In the market to upgrade to a used Tundra under $30k from my 2001 SR5 w 213k miles and I hear a lot of hoopla bout the TRD Pro…why so much hoopla bout it?

I wouldn’t worry too much about it as you’d be hard pressed to find one under $30k. The Pro was originally based on an SR5 trim with cloth seats. Featured upgraded Bilstein suspension with a level stance (essentially 2” front lift). Some interior details and some outside badging as well. The bedsides have the TRD Pro logo stamped into them. Came in both double cab and crewcab config. Only 4wd, unlike the TRD off-road package that was available on either. After 2019 or so they switched the pro to a limited trim truck with Fox upgraded suspension. Newer BBS wheels. They are like buying a trail boss or AT4 upgrade. Not like a raptor or Ram TRX.

Found this one for around $32k.
    2017 w 100k miles.
Doesn’t say TRD Pro anywhere…but it seems like it has beefed up suspension. Dealer said it’s an absolutely a TRD Pro.

    100% not a PRO. Just a 4x4 SR5

Thanks!! I said that to the dealer and he is not too keen on what he is selling!! Ugh. I guess this SR5 has a bit of a body lift then.

If the truck is indeed Silver Sky Metallic it’s 100 percent NOT a TRD pro.

Also, no bedside stamping, wrong wheel finish and no interior signs of a pro. Betting no Bilstein Pro shocks either. Likely just a spacer lift. It has TRD 4x4 decal on the side, May have the TRD off-road package.

I've seen plenty of trucks listed as "TRD Pro's" that aren't.
As others have already stated, it's most definitely not a Pro. But, that doesn't make it a bad truck. Pro's are really only worth the extra money if you plan to keep it 100% stock, suspension, wheels (and 2015-2017 wheels are nothing special), etc. And at 100,000 miles, even if that was a Pro, that suspension would need to be replaced. I can't see any reason to spend the extra money for a Pro if the truck has over 30,000 miles.

Unsure what year Doublecabs were still on option. After a certain year pros were Crewmax only.

If you are looking for a Pro they moved from the SR5 base to the limited in 19 and up so you get the sunroof, dual climate control and seat warmers. I think the 19's were still keyed but 2020 they went to push button start. And you get the hood scoop in the 19 and up.

Thanks! I’m just all over the place now…between Pros, LBs, SR5….guna need a cap to camp out of whichever way I go. Just want a good deal on a good running truck that I can go do some adventure with for my recent retirement…which I am now on a fixed income…lol….so I don’t want to spend too much $dough…budget around $30k

Wow, just 213k miles on a 22 year old truck! We have a 2013 Honda Pilot with 160k, and will be replacing it with a low-mile 2020 Sequoia TRD Pro. Honda started to cost us much money in repairs right after 90K, which was a surprise. Just in time for the powertrain warranty to run out...

Yep! Bought her w 36k on her and just ran her locally over the years. Had a work car so didn’t need to use her for my 1 mile commute! Lol. Longest trip was 9 hr from Nj to WV for deer huntin. I would take her again tomorrow if I needed to! My pal calls her Ol Goldenrod….an important weed crucial to deer, rabbit, wildlife habitat! Lol

I think for TRD PRO one of the dead giveaway is the stamped rear, stickers can be had for pennies on a dollar but those stamped panels don't come cheap if ever.
As for your situation, I would say a well cared for SR5 or even Limited trim if that fancies your imagination.
Shocks/tires/looks can all be upgrade for the amount of money you can and willing to put into it.
Might be able to look at a 2015-19 SR5 around 100K miles, depending on location which could sway that price either way for another $2-3K.

Shop around for the lowest mileage 4x4 you can find and you will be happy. I had a SR5 before this and added leather and seat warmers to get rid of the cloth and it was a fine truck. I got the Pro before the market went crazy. No way I would want to buy one now at the prices they are asking.

As others mentioned, it is TRD Offroad. Bilstein 4600, Michelin LT/X AT imitation tires, tin can skid plate. Nothing special. I have one =) Great truck! Wife drive TRD PRO Sequoia, sure FOX PRO is nice, but I wouldn't pay too much over the base truck for these. Especially if it's 100k miles old (FOX asks for struts/shocks rebuild every 50k miles I think?)

Look for SR5 with SR5 Upgrade package.

Yup - as many others have pointed out; definitely a TRD off-road package - *NOT* the TRD Pro trim.

Figure out what you want - double cab (smaller cab with 6.5' bed if you need to sleep in the bed with topper this will be the most comfortable and largest layout to do so); or crew cab (largest cab in the market and a shorter 5.5' bed - trickier to sleep under a cap/topper but possible unless you're 7' tall).

Agreed on looking for the best maintained SR5. You can add heated/leather seats and plenty of other goodies to improve your creature comfort without actually stepping up to a limited trim level. I happen to think and some others will agree that aftermarket leather on SR5 seats are more comfortable that the limited seats. Anyway, happy hunting.

Not a big fan of leather seats. Cloth seats with WetOkole are way more comfortable both in summer and winter. I have leather seats in my old Volvo and wife's TRD PRO Sequoia.
