WKOR (White Knuckle Off Road) Rock Sliders

After debating between all the different rock sliders people referred me to I finally pulled the trigger on these White Knuckle Off Road rock sliders.

They are .188 DOM Tubing and Powder Coated to perfection. The welds on this thing are immaculate and after placing my order back in June, the 12 week wait was worth it! I picked them up locally in Apple Valley California, which was a 3 hour drive for me from San Diego in my 95.5 Taco (daily driver/gas saver). The owner and his wife were very welcoming and honest he told me about how he started this business out of his home a few years ago and to see how many rock sliders they had at the warehouse was astonishing, especially because each one was made to order. They had to of had at least 200 in the shop ready to ship out.

I will be installing these babies tomorrow on my TRD Pro CM and I can't wait, will update with pictures of the install and the final product, stand by!

I bought a set last year. I got the 188 DOM powder coated. John is great! I picked them up in person also.

Best sliders out there. I have smashed the sht out of them on all kinds of rocks. Several times I have hit boulders at 60 mph and the kickout saved my wheel. The outer rail doesn't have a single dent. Lots of scratches, but the 188 DOM is holding up extremely well.

Also, these are the only sliders on the market for our truck that nailed the mounting. 5 frame mounts perfectly positioned. I had a hard time with the bolt by the gas tank (I have a double cab). I had to cut a wrench in half to get access. But I appreciate that John wasn't scared to do this mount. Other sliders only have 4 mounts because they dont want to mess with the area by the gas tank.

 

Have the same sliders, too. Thick wall is always the best and my sliders are scratched to like hell but like Alex said these things don't dent easily or at all.

I did, however, add a long rectangular brace that follows the frame on the bottom side.

 

install complete, very simple install so far, haven't drilled the additional holes to mount up the bottom holes of the bracket.

Just to clarify these have 10 bolts on each side u have to mount with 5 using the factory holes and 5 using holes you have to drill. Each bracket that is mounted on the factory holes has a another holes u need to drill in order to support the bottom of the bracket. These sliders are already sturdy and have absolutely no wiggle I was jumping on them and even had my friend jump around on them and nothing.

Don't know how well these will do on boulders and rocks without the additional bolts yet but not going to test it out haha I'm buying the drill bits this week and will fallow up how that went with more pictures, but in the meantime here are the pictures from the 1st step of the install!

Looks good! I have the same sliders and picked them up in person also. John was awesome, just a nice down to earth guy running a great small business. Haven't had an opportunity to test the sliders off road yet but soon.
Those lower frame mounts holes are a real pain to drill. I used a rotobroach and some very hard metal bits. Went through 1 rotobroach bit and 2 drill bits but got it done.

Haha! I went through over $100 worth of Dewalt bits because I was stubborn and didn't want to use oil while upside down

 

Haha, yeah it was difficult and messy. Used my floor jack under the drill after my arm went numb.

 

If you use lubricant while drilling, you shouldn't have any broken bits. I was able to drill all 10 holes with just the Rotobroach and some cutting lube. Those bits aren't cheap, haha.

I got off center and broke a tooth on the bit.
I used Milwaukee very hard metal bits after I broke the rotobroach bit. Went through 2 of those getting the last 4 holes drilled. Used the rotobroach lube for those bits also.

 

Nice sliders. I love mine. Sprayed mine with U-Pol bed liner for better grip when used as a step.

If you don't already have a decent hole saw for sheet metal, you don't necessarily need to go buy a set just for this install. I have a lot of metal working tools, but opted for plain ol' 1/8" - 1/4" - 1/2" black oxide bits. I managed to get all the holes drilled using just one bit of each size.

Adjust the drill speed down and torque high. Keeping the bits cool and lubricated is the key.
Just make sure to brace the drill with your forearm and step up the speed a bit as you're about to punch through so the bit doesn't catch. If the bit grabs, and the drill isn't braced properly it will come around fast and give you a good smack. I've seen a guy get knocked out cold from his own hand held drill.

 

^^^ I concur. I used the 1/8"-1/4"-1/2" step up drill method. Used one of each bit for all ten holes, ($20 if you don't already have bits.) A drop of "all-in-one" oil on the tip for each layer of metal for each hole. I took my time and worked great. Much easier than expected. Just super messy with all of the shavings.

Tips: I wore my jeans, long-sleeved T-shirt taped at the wrist and ski goggles for skin and eye protection. Those metal shavings come off with some serious heat! Ear plugs are recommended. I drove my truck up onto 8" of blocks for each side, and I made a couple of pillows out of rolled up towels for head support.

For sure, watch out for torque snap with the 1/2 inch bit at the end of the hole prep when it grabs. I kept my drill on the highest clutch setting instead of the "drill" setting. I have torqued my wrist in the past and it took months for the ligaments in my wrist and forearms to heal.

The packaging for shipping is top notch. They arrived with foam padding and wrapped in moving blankets on their own custom made palates.

 

What’s the current lead time and shipping costs if you don’t mind me asking? Been looking at these for a while

 

I think that I ordered them in early December and that arrived the first week of January. So about 4-5 weeks. Shipping to San Diego was roughly $160. They are heavy as F&*% and as mentioned, they package them with great care. Not a scratch on them.

These are the sliders that I plan on getting. Still haven’t decided which DOM I’m going to get. Good to hear that I can go pick them up to save on shipping. Plus it would be cool to meet the owner and see where my money goes. I like supporting small businesses.

 

I wouldn’t be afraid if I had your truck. You’ve got a lot of protection mods and lift to make it happen. I’ve been to Ocotillo Wells. But I parked my truck and rode my quad LOL The place is gnarly!

 

Definitely worth getting the 188...maybe shipping too. Since you’re in Torrance, it may take 2.5 hours each .
