Whoa, now. Don't go talking about "early release" or you'll summon @Fotnot and wind up expecting!

Don't get me wrong, Fall in N.E. is pretty amazing, but Summer around here is gone in a blink of an eye. Getting too old for this cold shit it seems. :anonymous:

The older I get, the less I can tolerate either extreme in temperature. If I could have 45°-75° year round I think I'd be happy, so long as it's not humid. I don't have gills.

Whelp, I just went out to the smoker to wrap the brisket and refill the hopper. I’ll skip the details cuz I’m tired and angry, but I think my smoker just shit the bed. Had to move the brisket into the kitchen oven. Another smoker is not in the budget…grrr

I think all the smaaht wearables are way more intrusive. The sleep # app is actually helpful.

Anyone here do masonry things? I'm about to pour another cap for the fire pit (yes, the smokeless hacks work!) and I'm certain this is the last time I'm pouring one.

Question: does one need to add high temp mortar into the high strength concrete mix?

I think I'm good as-is, but figured I'd ask before starting

I'm not a masonry expert, but I did have a masonry expert deliver and show me how to use materials to repair a kiln at work. Granted, that's much higher heat than a fire pit, but it was specialized mortar. I would assume it would be better to use a heat-rated mortar for a fire pit, brick oven, etc as well. Probably last longer without needing repairs.

Truck should be done any day now. I haven't talked about it because I didn't want to jinx it. I don't actually believe in God, luck, superstition, etc, but, sometimes I wonder. Every time I speak something (make plans, say I'll do something, say my truck is getting fixed), some shit happens and fucks it up. Plus, like @Tripleconpanna pointed out, when the universe fucks with me, it fucks with me harder than everyone else. Maybe because everyone's a pussy these days and I can handle it? Not sure. But I don't find it funny. There needs to be a universe HR dept so I can bitch.
So yeah, they replaced the whole front end. $15k at last tally. They've had it 3 months. Last time they called with an update a few days ago, they said it was just about done. Just waiting on some clips and little doodads they had to order to button things up.
3 months is too long. I've been driving my wife's little bronco sport with a 1.5L 3 cyl and glitter steering wheel cover.
I think I'm growing tits and starting to like back street boys.

Well shit. Back to the peasant life with the rest of us that don’t have smokers. Hopefully you can find every excuse to move it up in the budget.

. The brisket is decent, but not my best work. I was so exhausted I slept thru my temp alarm and so it got too hot. Still edible and the bark is decent. Not bad, especially for a “select” cut.

Now to dig into the smoker

Post a pic of the pre-repair carnage please. Curious what $15k worth of damage looks like.

As to the don't make plans thing, I hear ya. Murphy always fucking up my plans too.
