What is the bulge just before the exhaust tip?

It’s a small resonator. The TRD exhaust tips replace it with straight pipe

What happens to the sound if I chop the resonator off?

You can find video of the TRD exhaust, but it's not insanely louder.

    Thanks.
I have no interest in changing the sound or making it louder. I am just trying to add some clearance by chopping off what I can and adding a turndown tip. I like the idea of not being able to really see the tip and the extra clearance is a bonus.

Just use a sharpie and write Catalytic converter on it and I bet it will be gone the next morning. J/k
