When I say “mentality” I’m referring to the comment that I quoted.

And that is exactly why people who need trucks to do work complain about the fact that they have become the latest yuppie plaything rather than the utilitarian vehicle that a pickup truck shipped here.

Toyota isn't the line for a work truck. It's not their market.
    I don't think you've got a Gen3 so you shouldn't be aggrieved?

Even my gen 2.5 SR without a single factory option has more crap on it than I need or want.

And you say “Toyota isn’t the line for a work truck…” That’s irrelevant since ALL new trucks have far more crap than is needed or wanted. No one makes a basic pickup without a bunch of unneeded tech.

The work truck market is low profit and lower top line too. If you were a manufacturer would you make one if you were responsible for the business? There are better choices than Toyota in that segment.

Doesn’t the Govt require quite a bit of safety tech, whether anyone wants it or not?

    THIS!!

Don't blame Toyota, or Ford, or GM, or.... They are only doing what they are forced to do. Name one manufacture that doesn't have all the nannies at this point... It's not hard to figure out WHO is to blame for this and they are all elected by we, the people....

Ford still makes those totaly stripped F150s for fleet use, only
Avail in white with steel wheels and no bells and whistles other than a seat belt dinger you can unplug. They have a gazillion in stock right now too. Recent vid on YT shows hundreds of them in one lot from the Covid recovery covered in dust. Utilities all over the country use them. Bet they’d sell em cheap.

Not surprised they are still sitting there. Nobody wants that kind of truck anymore. They want to buy new trucks and then complain about them. :crapstorm:

In all honesty, I’d MUCH rather still be driving my old 1975 Chevy 1-ton with the 400 small block and Muncie SM465. However, the reality is that between parts availability, emissions requirements, and the rust and other problems that come with owning and driving something that old in a state that uses rock salt VERY liberally in winter, it just isn’t practical.

Up until just a couple years ago the newest truck I ever owned was a 1997 F150. I only got rid of that because it would have cost me a fortune to pass inspection. At that time I got my first-ever new truck, a Tacoma, based on their reputation for reliability, but didn’t keep it long because it simply didn’t fit my needs. That’s when I got my Tundra. And if the Tundra had been any more heavily optioned than my SR without a SINGLE factory option, I would not have bought it.

If you were Toyota, would you manufacture a truck for your use case and customer profile?

toyota has never gone after the work truck segment, they knew they could never compete.

from what i remember this is a rough estimate of what the breakout was suppose to be (very old article)

    35% based on its image
    32% truck enthusiasts
    12% light-duty driving
    15% haul their family
    6% purchased for commercial use

We elect congress, but we don't elect the people that make these rules. Congress and the president don't get at all involved in a lot of this stuff unless it's really nasty. It's currently being referred to as the fourth branch of government by some candidates, the unelected rule-makers, this is one example of that.

My guess is though that the people that don't like this stuff are already voting against it (as best they can), but the reality is that government is so large the vast majority of rule-makers aren't elected.

I remember them advertising gen2 on TV and most commercials had them driving through fire hoops towing max weight uphill, guys in hardhats and mega gloves and towing tractors around.

    Who remembers this?
I spoiled them because post too big.

Made it to 1500 miles this morning and the truck hasn’t exploded yet.

    I’m happy so far.

I don’t understand this thread being clogged up by people that don’t actually own a 3rd gen? What’s the motivation?

    Nice wheel package.

If it wasn't for the Gen3 forum the Gen 2 and Ford guys wouldn't have a place to go or thing to talk about.

Thanks, they are real TRD Pro wheels I had powder coated locally.

The color turned out a bit different than the sample I looked at, but I love it.

Agree they are unelected, however they are hired by those we elect, so essentially "we the people" are still at fault.

I bought mine in May and have over 12k on it already.
Like the truck very much. Gas mileage exceeded expectations. On interstate kept below 72 averaged 22.5 over three full tanks. Average 19.5 daily driving.
    Quiet, comfortable.
Good sound system and voice for phone.
    Quick! Giddy up when needed.

Came from a 2020 m/T Or Tacoma. No comparison in power, comfort, noise. Was Easier to park but that’s the only plus. Gas mileage only 5 % better in Tacoma.

some concern regarding legendary reliability and turbo but at the end of the day I trust Toyota. Hoping to drive it 200k and more.

Don’t love the appearance but don’t mind it either. Lotta plastic. Priced appropriately.

    8.5/10

I freaking love this truck. I would best be described as a weekend warrior, mountain biker, and mountaineer. This truck is the ultimate "shuttle bitch" to take me from suburbia to my mountain adventures.

Meh, not to cherry-pick but I disagree here. Particularly on this forum: Check all of the "what did you do to you ____ Gen today?" threads. Easily the largest "on-topic" threads on the site. Also, check some camping threads, and any of the long travel guys threads both builds and trips etc. Guys like @joonbug @reywcms @snivilous all have some lengthy, engaging threads.

Thanks for the mention, I always appreciate knowing someone actually looks at all the shit I post :D

And if anyone else wants to read about the supercharged tube chassis offroad racecar I built and racing on Saturday, or swapping a 2JZ into a 1978 Hilux, or my boring 600hp 300k mile Tundra, I have 19 pages and 3 threads of mostly talking to myself that covers it
