    image.jpg Hey guys, guess this will be my first post here! I've already done several mods from reading all over forums but it's time I join in on the fun.
    So I'm going to start with a real basic question. Should I leave my grill chrome or plasti dip it black? I'm guessing majority will be black...any other ideas? I'm open to anything besides painting my bumpers. For now. Let's hear it!

    Welcome from Aurora,CO. 99.999% here most likely will say no chrome. I have chrome front and rear. Going to leave my front the way it is and buy a new rear bumper. From what I understand, 5 to 7 coats of PlastiDip will square away each bumper. Others will chime in soon enough.

    You sir are correct. I would do a plasti dip grill but I don't think I'd do the bumpers. I'd have to get those painted with something.

    Sean that does look really good. So be honest. Does the bumper hold up well when it comes to chips and having to wash off bugs etc? I guess in the end if I have problems and don't like it I can just take it off and start fresh.

    Why would I not be honest? Rear bumper needed a touch up after a year or so..the grill was fine when I traded it in...member @JC303 has had it for just over a year. How's it holding up, @JC303?

    Thanks though. I am dipping the grill as we speak. Once I get that on we'll go from there.
    So for tomorrow's project I think I'm going to dip all the badges too. Uh oh...this is gonna get out of hand real quick

    Same here to a point. That's why I'm leaning towards leaving the chrome bumpers and do the rest. Don't feel bad you're not alone :)

    Lately I'm seeing pieces of crap wanna be slider cars and trucks blacked out. Dime a dozen. Not unique anymore. I'm old school where being trendy was getting chrome wheels. Moons.Mickey Thompson tires. (He wasn't murdered yet) The more things change, the more it remains the same. What ever you do. Don't toss anything out. When the circle comes around, which it will, you won't have to replace anything.

    It holds up pretty good. I have decided that I want it permanent do I might powder coat them. But the dip looks good. Put on a heavy 7 coats. The grill has held up better than the bumpers.

    The dip works pretty good. I was surprised by how well it stould up after going thru some heavy sage brush. I am a believer now with dipping if you want to go that route.

    Do what looks best to you, not what trends say. I love the blacked out look. Not because of a fad or trend, because i love the look.
    Obviously my vote is black it out. Color match is very nice as well. There are certain things that look really good color matched and others that look better black (to me).
    Door handles, side mirrors and any badges left on look better black.
    I am not a fan of fake chrome.

    Well I finally got around to putting the the SABM from Dez. Install only took about 45min and had no hang ups. I can really tell a difference sound, much throatier and notice a little more low end TQ. Not sure about HP or MPG yet, will be measuring in the next few weeks. For the price, can't go wrong. I think a much better option than the CAI route. Also have a aFe Pro Dry drop in filter.

    Nice. I'd like to know what you think about the low end tq after you've put the filter in and in 500 miles after the ecu learns the extra airflow. I've considered the sabm, but haven't read anything more than first impressions.

    I will let you know. You're right other than first impressions there isn't much out there. I think it's going to be a much better option than CAI. Those seem like kind of a waste.

    Yes just dip'd the grill black. It used to be chrome. I was thinking about the bumpers but think if I go that route, I will either paint them body color or MAYBE Line-X. Not sure.

    Paint match bumpers would look really good. Just depends on how much you want to spend. The quote i got for the bed of the truck was $500 for Line-X. Both bumpers im guessing around $300 if you pull them off so they dont have to tape. Might be more if they have to spend the time taping. Painting may be around $300 as well. Just a guess.
    Plastidipped bumpers last a while and will only cost around $15-$20 for 3-4 cans. You can touch them up if they get scratched. I plastidipped my rear bumper on my Tacoma and it lasted a year or so before i spilled some oil in the bed. The oil started to peal the plastidip. Just cut below where it was peeling and touched it up. Looked good. Plastidip alone is a little on the Satin or Flat black side but you could always add the glossifier on top to get more of a wet look.
