Help. This is driving me crazy. I hate water spots. I was cleaning the inside of the truck the other day and it seems that some got behind the class/plastic cover over the instrument cluster. Not sure how this happened but must have been one heck of an angle. My question is, How do I clean the back side of the glass?

That would drive me crazy too. Was it there when you purchased it? If yes have Toyota replace the cluster under warranty. I had this happen once out of warranty. I had to remove the cluster from the dash, heat the plastic welds that held the clear lens on the cluster, then reassemble everything. I used a small bead of silicone to help hold the lens on because some of the welds wouldn’t hold when I put it back together. List price part is $623 for a new cluster. Found one for $407 online. It’s a big job if you haven’t disassembled a dash and cluster before.

My first thought is the dealership may have forgotten to take the factory film protector off of the cluster.

Of course, if you have my luck, it won't be that simple.

Not a factory issue, just a user error. I sprayed armor-all on dash to protect the interior and somehow it got behind the glass. I’ve had the truck since last September and this just popped up last week.

its not too hard to remove the trim around the cluster and the cluster will come out of the dash, the glass portion separates from the main cluster with tabs. Just be careful the plastic scratches easy.

You may have caused it but it should be air tight and not do that. If it's under warranty the dealership should cover it.... IMO.

Well I went Rambo on it. No broken tabs but it does scratch very easy. It seems like there is a coating on the screen and it got etched with the armor all. Window cleaner with a microfiber cloth only scratched the screen did nothing to remove the spots. Seems like I will have to order a new part. IMG_4970.jpg Thanks for the help everyone.

Thats cool, didn’t know you could just buy the clear part without the cluster assembly. Love this forum.

Its worth while when you swap it out to get a screen protection film. There is a company called screenprotect that sells pre-cut kits.

New here but have same issue with my instrument cluster glass. How did the replacement go? Any tips/suggestions?

I see the part is still only $40, which is great.

    Thanks!

If anyone wants to revisit this, I've ordered the 83852-0CS70 and screen protector from Protech. Will be attempting the replacement early next week once parts are here. Thanks!

In a side note, Armor All with all its silicone goodness is really bad for plastics and rubber (many a prematurely cracked vinyl dashboards will attest to that). Gawd knows what it does to Softex. 303 has some really good stuff.

Bingo, and just might be able to save 40 dollars as people have used this on scratched glass and it camoflauges it. Will absoulutley make future cleaning effortless with no new scratches.

My cluster cover glass has the same bubbles/water spots on the inside as OP's. Bought the truck used, didn't notice until a couple days later. The outside of the glass is quite scratched too- guessing from someone trying to clean the water spots on the inside. Hence ordering the replacement part... also ordered the Screen Protech! Will definitely put it on as soon as the new cluster cover arrives.

I'm mostly concerned about getting the dash opened up and removing the cover glass/plastic.. looks like all clips but need to remove some dash trim to get it out.

Plexus plastic polish sprayed on a clean, new microfiber is the only way to clean the cluster plastic without scratching it up. It’s ridiculously expensive - like $30/can but it’s all I will trust for clear plastics. It was designed to clean and polish polycarbonate aircraft windshields where optical clarity is paramount.

I use 303 for all the other interior plastics. Armor All is snake oil. IMO.

My Centurion surf boat has in the owners manual if you use Armor All on the interior, your warranty is void for any interior claims

alawys use just warm water on your interior

I have this issue- my cover looks exactly like the first photo on this thread. Dealer is claiming the bubbles are etched into the outside of the cover- like someone left Armorall or something on it and it damaged it. Sure looks like the inside of the cover to me, but they're saying no, and they won't cover it under warranty.

I had previously ordered the part to replace myself, but it showed up damaged and had to return. Back to that plan I suppose...
