Keep your head up and work through the process with your insurance company. Tell them what you want from them, worst that happens is they say no and you go from there *cough attorney*.

If the insurance company wants to play hardball just make a trip to the city of their corporate headquarters. Before departing make some posters up advertising free catalytic converters, at their address. Once you arrive place said posters up on the message boards of all the drug rehab/12 step self help group meeting rooms you can find online before you leave.

But I will say that personally, the second that truck was fixed is the second I would be driving to a dealership.

Your scenario is becoming commonplace where I live. And it’s a damn shame but again where I live NOBODY seems to care…

insurance companies have no fear of customers or customers attorneys. They do fear regulators. Drop a note to the state insurance commissioner, your insurance agent and the highest level official they have in the state.

 

I would get a kick out of the seeing the insurance agents expression when they heard how a 55k truck just happened to get stolen with the key in it, damn the bad luck

I sincerely doubt local or state LE are doing this for a stolen vehicle. I've seen this being done for some car jackings.

(Latent prints) This is actually standard operating procedure for a lot of agencies. However, useable prints are more rare than what the tv world makes it out to look.

Dna only if blood or something obvious left behind from smashed windows or crashing out

And just to add: even if LE gets a positive hit on a latent print or DNA, it doesn’t automatically mean they can arrest said individual.

In the eyes of the court it only puts the individual in the vehicle nothing more.

Further investigation/evidence (security footage, a RELIABLE eyewitness, etc etc) is required which many departments (NOTE: NOT THE COPS/
DETECTIVES FAULT) simply lack the resources.

 

I ride by the State Farm campus in Atlanta ever now and then. 3 large mid story bldgs. I assume at least one of the towers is all lawyers. The other is payout prevention. The other is payment receipts

Here is what you do- take it to the most expensive body shop AND the toyota dealership and get quotes for total repair with labor.

then you get the check and do the work yourself, but parts online for cheap or from totaled vehicles and do the work yourself.

 

Not useful for prosecution of the thief but dirty mike and the boys did say they would have sex in that truck again
