Hey question on the

$999 Kenwood DMX1037S 10.1" High Definition Car Stereo Receiver with Capacitive Touch Panel

Kenwood DMX1037S - is there an adapter necessary somewhere to connect the stock XM radio tuner to the headunit? I'm not particularly interested in having it, but moreso having the functionality available if I do decide to pick it up someday.

 

You need the external SXM tuner and the STO2 antenna adapter kit that lets the tuner connect to the factory antenna

Head unit picked up last night from Best Buy and they were able to return it and resell at the $350.99 price point without any issues. Everything else was just ordered from Crutchfield for the install. Estimated delivery from Crutchfield is next Tuesday. Hoping I can find the time to get it installed before the end of the month. Looking forward to see how the group install goes this weekend. Be sure to post up any trial and error for the rest of us.

 

FWIW, I ended up dropping Sirius XM in favor of Spotify because the sound quality I would get through XM was always garbage.

Finally got the HDMI cable last night after a week of waiting and finished the install.

When they wanted to start charging us $250/yr for the first vehicle and $120/yr for the second one, I told them to shove the service up their ass. They tried to "woo me back" with offers for $5/month but I'm already over it. Spotify family plan for the win.

 

Only reason I still have SXM is because it's $5/month and I'm too lazy to download offline music to spotify for when we're off grid doing hoodrat shit.

 

OK - so I've got a coworker who is on the forum here but not super active. He completely missed the feeding frenzy (and I was out of town and didn't get a chance to tell him about it).

Thanks for the info! It definitely requires signing up for it for the tuner to get to the free stage, and it's just not worth it to me, really. If I do someday sell my Tundra I'll be sure to let the next guy know he can easily connect adapters to the headunit for the functionality.

This is where I'm at currently, but I hate to say Spotify doesn't have any clue how to suggest new music to be based on my likes or playlists. "Oh you like Airbourne ok here some ACDC - oh you like ACDC here's some Airbourne" AND it's always the same songs ping-ponging.

Gods I miss Google Play Music before they went full retard into YouTube music. Just the worst.

I had ALL my obscure bootleg concert stuff uploaded to the cloud AND could stream it anywhere plus the stuff they had.

There's a way to do it with Spotify, but it's a lot more work.

I tend to grab random "radio" stations and just hit download on them.

The most fucked up one is the "family" playlist though - between my kids' tastes and my wife's, it's an interesting mix.

 

Hahaha, yep. Plus I don't usually have my phone connected, as the truck GPS antenna and Onx don't play well (can jump 50-100 ft on the map for no reason)

 

Only reason I have SMX is to listen to The Bonfire, Weird Medicine (only one show a week), and sometimes The Jim And Sam show.
I had to give up Bennington when Ron brought is daughter on to cohost.

If any of you drive a lot and need to laugh, The Bonfire is hilarious.
They are as funny as O&A were in their prime on SXM.
I think they also are on Spotify and Apple podcasts.





When I listen to music it's usually on my iphone shuffle.

Does anyone know if this works at any Best Buy or does the store actually have to have sold these at one point? Or have the empty slot on the display?

 

Should be in the system at any Best Buy. You just need to find someone there that isn't eating crayons, which can be a problem.

 

Our BestBuy is the red headed stepchild of the Austin BestBuys. It had no slots and nothing on display but they ordered them for me. Just give them the SKU and you should be good.

 

Thanks for the heads up. Took two minutes to order. Hopefully it shows up. I did a little research and saw that you can add side mirror cameras to the Kenwood. Anyone have any insight on that?

 

I'm thinking about buying their Dash Cam because it integrates into the display. I don't see me doing any side cameras unless @RainMan_PNW plans on visiting in the near future.

 

I think I’ve gathered everything for the Halo 9 installation on the 4Runner. Bought a block acoustical foam that I hope to cut and put around the mic - I want to put it where the factory mic is in the overhead.
