I picked up a set of the BW oe style fender flares and they come with the rubber gasket for the fender edge. Do I need to apply paint protection film under these or are they usually tight enough to be ok and not rub underneath.

They will rub. It's the dust that gets behind the seal and acts like sandpaper. I got a 100 foot roll of Xpel 3/4 inch from Amazon. You won't need 100 feet but you can use it for various things.

Does the Xpel do the curves ok when putting it down. Also how did you mark or where the xpel tape goes? I thought about using a grease type pencil to mark it and then cutting tape and the xpel over that? I am probably waay over thinking how to do it

Yes it's pretty easy to work with. I used Patrick's video when I did mine.

I did this this morning and it was a lot easier than I thought. I dreaded removing the flares again but the rubber edge trim had jind of formed itself to the flare and fender and kept in place.

Th xpel tape was easy to form to the shape I needed and went right down smooth. Unlike the video where he used tape to mark the outline, I used a sharp grease pencil. I pinched it between my fingers and then ran them along the fender as a guide. When I was done the grease wiped right off. It was much quicker than taping the outline.
