I just realized today that my Tundra's glovebox is lockable. My ignition key won't go inside the lock. Is there a separate key for this that I don't have? Or do I need to take the lock apart and lubricate it?

Ignition key (black top) is supposed to lock/unlock the glovebox. However, people rarely use it, so it probably just needs a little help like mine did.

    Try this:

Put the tip of the key at the opening. Lift & lower the handle 1/4"-1/2" while wiggling the key up/down/back/forth and pushing the key in with moderate pressure.

I just had to do this while testing on my truck. Mine wouldn't go in either. I've never locked the glovebox. And just when I had it inserted as far as it would go, and it still wouldn't unlock, I wiggled a little bit more, and it went in. THREE TIMES I did that

Give it a try, see if you have any luck. Once I removed, confirmed it locked, it was still a little difficult to unlock, I repeated the process 3x and it works as expected now.

A good dry lube intended for barrel locks would probably work well once you get it free.

    Great! Thanks for the info!

I plated with it a bit, managed to get the lock locked and unlocked. Had trouble getting it unlocked for a bit but eventually got it. Seems the lock pivots up and down in there.

Yeah, it's not the most sturdy thing in the world. If a thief were to get in your car and it was locked, guess how doesn't need a key to get in the glovebox anymore?

At the end of the day, I'd never trust keeping a weapon in it, you'll end up with a broken dash and down one weapon. Lockboxes are the way to go on that. I meet with guys from the local precinct twice a month, I can't get over many weapons are stolen from car week after week around here. It's absurd.

Not saying that's what you're gonna do. Just had one of those meetings about 2 hours ago and still disappointed.

Lock on the glove box? Damn, I gotta check that out!

    Nope. Not for 2002 unfortunately.

I agree, lockboxes are the way to go for weapons. Actually wasn't what I was going to use it for. I work with the local schools and with school starting I have to sit at a school bus depot for several hours a day waiting for a number of school busses to show up. Last Wednesday I sat there for 5 hours. Was actually going to lock a Nintendo Switch in it to keep me entertained :)

We just finished that up over here ourselves. Didn't 100% everything, but collected everything except one or two things behind dragons or multi-Lynel battles. Really fun, scared to look at how many hours we invested.

    Nice!

Kids keep me too busy from being able to put much time into it, and my son is a bit obsessed with Mario Kart so...
