House fire yesterday afternoon about 5 miles from us spread to surrounding brush. At the peak, the evac zone was still about 3 miles from us, but that’s not that far in fire world.
They got it contained around midnight…

 

Crew stayed overnight to watch for flareups. Thankfully there were none.

Damage at the front of the house is from the firemen busting open doors and windows. The fire happened at the back of the house so I cannot see anything. But it doesn’t look good.

Owners got back to me. Their renter wasn’t home so thankfully no loss of life. No pets in the home.

 

How do you get 36° temp swings within a day? Solar flares?

I watched my house burn down when I was 4. Ever since I've had a hyper sensitive nose for smoke, hot wires melting their insulation, etc. And I'm obsessive about unplugging things, checking the stove, etc before leaving the house. The thing I worry most about is leaving the dogs home when we will both be gone for more than 30 min.
The new house has an attached garage and I put a man door on the back of the garage. If we're ever not home and something happens, there'll be a dog door on 2 doors so they can get outside through the garage. Hopefully that's not where a fire starts. But knowing me and knowing my wife,....even though I'll have tools, combustibles and a propane heater in the garage, there's about a 783% higher chance that she'll start a fire in the house with some stupid shit she forgot to unplug or a candle or something.
Anyway, it makes me sick when I hear about pets getting trapped and dying in a fire. And don't get me started on people that keep birds in a cage and other animals in little glass boxes.

A little higher than that - maybe low 30's percent; but not our normal 50's and 60's percent. I think there's math about how hot it can get based on humidity (or maybe that's reversed?). Anyway, to your last point, I agree.

 

The hotter the air, the less water it can hold. Not sure of the math either, but it’s not possible apparently to get high humidity and temps.

Also slept like dog shit. Woke up with a headache, too. Hope I'm not getting a damn cold.

 

I had a got dam headache for 2 days straight. Hardly slept either night. Was tossing and turning last night and I was flipping to my other side so my lower back doesn't over cook, flipped over and my neck popped right at the base of my skull.
Headaches instantly gone.
I thought is was a combo of stress and sinuses. Turns out it was some weird shit in my neck. I mean, my neck has been messed up for years and I get headaches from it often,but it's never popped in that spot before and my headache has never instantly gone away from my neck popping.

 

And I think the humidity thing works like:
The more moisture in the air, the more heat it can hold.

Smells are some of the deepest memories that get imbedded in our brains. I had some limited involvement in terms of response to a small aircraft crash in my mid 20s; the imagery of charred human remains (still in a seated position) were nothing in comparison to the odors that flooded your senses on approach... some things just don't leave your brain and become a trigger for hypersensitivity to certain smells, sounds and sights, but I think odor is the strongest of them

Well, dogs don't normally let me get more than 7ish hours of sleep at a time (which is still pretty decent), but I went to bed early last night (probably around 1215am) and didn't wake up till after 0930, so a little over 9 hours for me... Thank you all for your sacrifices!!!!

 

Speaking of crappy beaches, we have lake beaches. Even when it's sunny and warm, they're kinda crappy as far as beaches go.
Hawaii had nice beaches. And nice weather. I brought back about 2 lbs of black sand. Pretty sure the curse is real.

Just did this with a snowblower that I purchased. Someone rebuilt the carburetor but then didn't route the fuel line correctly so it would get an air bubble in the line and not run.
