I am wanting to wire a rear camera on my trailer and have it powered all the time. I am wondering where would be the best place to tap power for it. It will use a 2 plug RCA connection with a standard two wire power tap on one to supply power.

Normally yes with key on. Find your ground with a multimeter set for continuity, then set it to voltage dc and with the key on you should find a 12v +.

Most of the people on the Lance owners forum I belong to tap into one of the running lights on the back of the trailer.

I thought trailer plug wires were switched power, need key on.
Is one hot all time, non-switched?

This might be easier but I would need the running lights on to power the camera. Although I do like this better than running a power wire the length of the trailer.

True, but I always turn mine on when towing anyway.

    Lots of stuff!
My trailer backup camera is a Voyager brand wireless unit. Nothing required at the 7 pin connection.

The camera is mounted at the back of the trailer near the center marker light so the running lights need to be on to power the camera. The screen plugs into a 12 volt cigarette light outlet in the truck cab and that's it. Pretty easy and no need for extra wires at the 7 pin connector.

There are a few brands that work the same and I think you can get an app on your smartphone which would eliminate the need for the extra screen in the cab.
