Any 2023 owners received their second key fob?

Hey wanna know a great reason for the 2nd fob.

when the one that came with your truck dies at 8 months old.

(yes I'm sure it's the battery will be getting one today don't normally keep a box of 2450's next to the box of AA batteries)

 

I knew keeping it near the vehicle would shorten the battery life (like the other side of the garage wall), but just by another key fob does the same thing? I keep both the Tundra and Highlander keys on my key ring, so I guess I'll be changing it more often than most. I'm not separating them, and I'm not putting either to sleep. Actually when I do get my 2nd Tundra fob 1Q 2024 it will also be within 6 inches in storage, because the wife ain't getting a key to my truck!

i have a key holder with 2 different (at times 3) fobs on it and that doesnt affect them. but they are different models, 2014 4runner, 2018 hyundai sante fe, and sometime the 2023 tundra.

doesnt affect the longevity of the battery from what i can tell sitting on the holder for years at a time. i have my spare and the hyundai spare on the holder and as the main fob dies i just use the other until it dies.

ive only had to replace both fobs batteries once on the 2018 hyundai and twice on the 2014 4runner.

 

You can shut off the Toyota ones to lengthen batt life.(They stop searching for the car) One click wakes them back up. I've done this with all our Toyota spare fobs.( Hold Lock button down 2 secs and continue to hold, then at the same time click Unlock button twice. Wait till flashing stops and let go - Its Off. One click wakes it back up )

 

Has anyone received their second key fob yet ?!

It's been 6 months, nothing yet.

 

Yes I got my second key fob a week ago. Toyota brand engagement advocate called dealer to order it and emailed dealer service manager to pay for it. The dealer took care of it very quickly. It wasn’t even the dealer where I purchased the truck. My truck was built march 2023. I purchased in April 2023 and was expected to receive one till the end of the year.

 

I recently called Toyota brand engagement, and they were no help. Guess maybe I’ll try again

 

I would if I were you. If all the new owners called. It may help push the second key fobs to the new tundra owners.

Long thread, seems I am not alone.

Will the second key come to owner directly or I have to visit the dealer to get it?

Dealer said it will come to me, then I have to bring it to dealer for programming, sound weird.

 

You will receive a letter from toyota which you take to your dealer, who will provide the key & program it to your vehicle.

 

Supposed to get mine in August... but so far half of August is gone, and nada. But then I am not sure if this should be the priority when I have 2 outstanding safety recalls, one going on 6 months, and neither having a remedy or completion path forward. I thought I bought a Toyota but apparently someone gave me a Chevy or Ram in Toyota sheet metal.

 

I reached out to Toyota regarding this and here was their response:

I called and asked about purchasing an extra key...over $600

 

Purchased my '23 in April, still no second FOB.

 

Looks like Ryanwgregs account is on hold right now for a break or something, I see all his posts are gone (he had quoted this multiple times in this thread). In case you missed it in the previous posts here is what we know today about when to expect your second fob (we will see if it holds true).

 

he posted last week that he was taken a vacation from the forums for an undetermined amount of time.

 

But he said he'd still be monitoring and maybe chime in for some things... which he did at least once after starting the "vacation". But if all his posts have been deleted... and it seems that they have... there must be more to this story. For instance, his posts with the chart for 2nd fob deliveries that had appeared several times in this thread are gone. The only sign that he was ever here at all is his "likes" for other posts.

 

And the second key fob saga continues……….

 

His account is not active, so I assume he deleted it??? Saw in another post he was "asked nicely" to remove his TSB posts. He was on the 22 Tundra Facebook page and is gone from there as well. Hate to see him go, very informative....

 

really? thats a dick move by whomever. that was one if not top 10 threads on here imo.

 

only other thing was that toyota usa did a little pushing on forum management to force it. not likely but after what toyota usa does to ext warranty dealer people that get outed from here its not too much of stretch.

 

This is almost surely what happened. For anything and everything, from the details of recalls to listing TSBs, to key fob availability, Toyota seems to want to keep us in the dark. It really is sad. It doesn't take much to create goodwill. Nor does it take much to squander it.
