My only concern with the kenwood would be the reboot issue that kenwood and pioneers had in the past. No clue if it’s still an issue or not. Haven’t heard of any issues of that coming from the alpines. Was enough for me to gravitate toward alpine. If my alpine reboots I’ll be flipping tables.

I know @1lowlife @TRDFerguson got the virus. @AZBoatHauler you get the reboot curse as well?

Have you used the DSP JL amps before? I have an HD 900/5 that I used in my last system. I absolutely love it, but been curious about the DSP one's.

If you custom make some new A pillars, I think you should make at least a couple sets for us less talented folks.

JL Tun is solid in my opinion. Is it the best of breed? I don't feel as though it is, I still think an Audison is top of the heap of all the good ones out there.

JL will be more than overkill for the truck from a tuning perspective.

Eventually I probably will pick up a DSP. My main priority is getting suspension on this truck. Like you, the stereo wasn't at all a priority, until these head units went on sale for crazy, stupid cheap. Luckily, I still have the HD 900/5 and Focal components from my Silverado. Probably going to even be running the Stealthbox from the Silverado for awhile, too, haha.

I went to the Best Buy in the area and they had one left. Guess it was meant to be! A huge thanks for the heads up on this crazy sale! I'm having it installed tomorrow and currently have a Kenwood double DIN with the Metra install kit. I can't seem to find the little cubby that came in the kit. Does anyone know if you can see behind the unit and if it's even needed?

That's awesome! I've always wanted custom fiber glassed A pillars. But never trusted myself to do it. And, I've thought about pulling out the rear seats and having a bad ass custom sub box built. But, that would probably be stupid. It would be cool to have rear bucket seats, though. Then that would leave lots of room in the middle.

You can see behind it from the side. For now I just stuck some sound deadener over the empty slot, but I'll eventually pick up a single DIN blank plate (or wait for @RainMan_PNW to print me one...)

We did a bunch of down firing sub enclosure in customer center console boxes in between the rear captain's seats of the Harley Davidson edition F-150s back in the day.

It happens but is very sporadic. There are certain places that seem to induce a reboot :tinfoilhat: and other times it seems random. I’d say I get around 1-2x/month. I’ve heard rumors it’s the RR unit dropping voltage but have not done any diagnostic work on mine.

That's exactly the truck I was thinking of when I thought of rear bucket seats. And that would be the perfect sub enclosure!

Have you updated your firmware on the Maestro recently? My Pioneer rebooted because it was a piece of shit, but the only issues I had with my Kenwood were related to Maestro bugs.

I did not. My life has been way too crazy lately between work and getting 3 kids back to school/sports and helping coach my kids baseball team. Haven't been boating, racing, or off-roading in way too long!
    :annoyed:
Nope - hasn’t bugged me enough the unpack everything to pull the unit. I wasn’t smart enough to position the maestro where I could pull it out of the center speaker grille.

I do want your feedback once you hit dirt regarding if or how much the floating HU bounces when we’re being stupid... I mean living our Baja dreams in the desert.

Could buy a piece of plastic and melt it onto your cubby. Make a little time capsule and stuff some goodies in there?
