Have a 2016 Tundra. Took it in to dealership for an oil change. Upsold into a brake flush and internal cleaning of the throttle valve body.

Car was returned with a fuel tank that could no longer take gas in. Returned it to dealership. Told I need a new fuel tank. The truck is a 2016 with only 25 thousand miles on it. Doesn't sit. It's driven regularly around town.

No fuel tanks anywhere in the U.S.

Now what, dealership says it's not their fault.

Have an independent shop check it out

To clarify, the truck won't take gas? IE: You're at the gas station and you can only fill up a gallon or so at a time before the pump clicks off?
Or, you can fill up but the tank has a hole in it and it all leaks out?

Welcome to the forum from OKC! What exactly is broken? Slow or no fill? That can be corrected and if you use the search bar here on the site you can read what others did to resolve it. Basically according to some, the check valve gets stuck from overfilling. I think they used a borescope and stiff wire or similar to fix it, but can't really remember. I just don't fill it completely full so I can simply avoid it altogether.

Time for a 46gal aftermarket upgrade tank. Yes, costly!

It won't take gas. Got half of a gallon in barely. It was fine before I took it in to dealership. Now it's back at dealership out of gas and they say valve is flipped as in a truck roll over. Truck never had accident, no roll over.

The dealership said they tried to pull the valve back but it wouldn't move. Now they state it has to have new fuel tank. Toyota has all tundra 2016 fuel tanks on backorder none available anywhere

Take it to an independent shop and have them make their own recommendations; i obviously can’t trouble shoot the truck over the forum but the first thing that comes to mind would be the charcoal canister is clogged if you can’t take gas… if that’s been tested and deemed working, then on to the next part.

What happens if dealership causes this damage and then no part to fix it?

They need to give you a loaner vehicle.
I would contact Toyota corporate and open up a claim.

I contacted corporate. Dealership declined to offer loaner. Would not accept fault. I'm waiting to see what Corporate says. Only 25k on engine but out of warranty because it is 7 years old.

Valve flipped the last time you filled up, just coincidence that you needed to fill up again after the dealership.

If you overfilled the tank by topping off or the gas station pump kept leaking out (which happened to me and I thought I was getting free gas), the valve will flip.

This happens on the trucks sometimes, especially if the tank is "topped off" when fuelling. It may not have been the dealers fault or yours, because the rollover valves do stick sometimes.

The "they" can't is BS and all depends on who "they" is. Others have corrected it. Is it corrected or simply being forced open? That might be up for debate. However, at least they can get fuel into the damn thing.

What is better for repair for others? Independent or dealership? I'm waiting to hear from Corporate to see if they will offer solution. Dealer has not offered loaner, or any repair solution other then replace the whole fuel tank. The next step if Toyota won't help is to tow it out.

Try this as a last resort .. was having same problem with filling and this stuff helped in my case. The previous owner overfilled and dealer had put a new charcoal canister but was still a slow fill at pumps until I used the stuff in the video. BOL !

@Ruggybuggy can you shed any light on the parts for the rollover valve? Is it possible to replace without replacing the whole tank?

Dealerships have absolutely no interest or motivation to preserve your investment. They are a training ground for new “techs.” I’m sure there are some honest and decent mechanics out there, but I’ve found the way they are structured, from top/down, you are much better off finding a reputable independent shop, or fixing it yourself.

I have seen this before once. It can be fixed easily, remove the large rubber filler neck by removing the 10mm hose clamps. Then use a long flat head and tap the flapper valve open. The roll over valve is located right below the fuel tank inlet.

Take a 4 foot long ziptie and run it down the filler neck. You'll feel it bump something, then push through. It'll flip that flap open and you'll be good to go.
