Got a 1/2" wide (pretty thin) scratch to my paint (not just the clear coat) on my side door. Don't want it to rust or get any bigger. Any recommendations on fixing it myself, or should I just have the dealership or an auto body shop fix it? Truck is magnetic grey (if that matters)

I was transporting stuff in the back of my truck for my wife and long story short a metal fan fell over the driver side of the bed and left a 1.5-2 inch gash above the rear tire. It seems to have gone through every layer of paint and naturally I went on the interweb to look for anything that could help. Found a place called automotive touch up and order their pen. It’s an exact color match but if you don’t mind waiting 4-5 weeks for it. I have MGM also. I can prob send you my pen and it would come a lot sooner then you ordering from then

Hmm can you take a look at the pic I added, let me know if that pen would work. If so, I would definitely take you up on your offer, then can mail it back after.

On deep thin scratch like that which is thru the clear coat and very thin is tough to touch up and make it not look worst. Because the brush bottle touch up is inevitably going to be higher than the original paint surface (i.e. blob on top of the paint). I used this stuff year's ago on a Torch Red Vette and it works as good as your finger dexterity. Not sure about metallic paints though, which is yet another complication in matching. Might be worth a try to make the paint touch up look better or more flush to the base surface. Than a light feathering of spray clearcoat if you are really adventurous.
