I remember one time driving with my wife and I surprised her by slipping it into tow mode and punching it to WOT from a standing stop… as to which the wife replied “I didn’t know we owned a race car”

I had a sign today sort of in a way.

While I was driving to work and thinking about wot replies, there was a section of the road that bends and descends. It's not bad and it was dry and I have new tires. Plenty of traction. As we were descending downhill, I tapped brakes a little and she downshifted a couple gears, 3000rpm. Anyways, I decided not to brake and just use engine power to keep speed in check.

As I get to the bend and begin to turn, I started hearing all sorts of screeching and clunking! I was terrified and thought I broke the truck! But I didn't even wot!!

When I moved my left arm and looked at rpm area, traction control just stopped blinking. It was a relief, but I was very gently on my way the rest of the way.

What's interesting, and I've noticed it on few occasions, even before tires lose grip, you can trigger trac light. Sometimes you don't even get any sort of noises. I'm assuming it's on the borderline of starting it's own thing, but not just yet.

Wondering if it's because truck is long and requested angle doesn't match actual angle from the sensors as the truck begins to shift down force. Or whatever the term is...when you start turning, it feels like front is moving quicker and then rear sort of catches up. Butt gyro notices right away.

You might benefit from a professional private driving school if you have one in your area. I'm talking about one that has a track and a skid car on the premises. Generally where the law enforcement officers and such in your area train. Not terrible cost wise and you will likely qualify for a discount on your car insurance too.

That's just your truck telling you it's got your back! But I've had similar experiences on some mountain roads in MT and CO, it's just a gentle reminder for me that I'm not in a sports car.

Now just to be clear, I didn't spin out or lose control. What scared me was all those crunches and whirs that I heard. Vehicle was under maximum control at all times.

Unless your truck is in seriously bad condition your fears are unfounded. I WOT everything periodically...full 1st/2nd pulls to redline.

    My 97 TJ with a 2.5 with 195k...check (required)
    My 06 Silverado with 170k....check
    Wife's 17 Outback with 60k...check
Tundra...at least every other drive she gets stomped on.

I WOT daily, everything is up to operating temperature by then so I don’t worry about it. I drive lots of highway miles daily for commuting to and from work, it’s a combination of drag racing onto on ramps, nascar driving in the straight a ways and formula 1 when merging onto other highways. The 8” dirty deeds sounds sweet. I try to keep up with the pack and will hit 75+ daily.

I treat it like flying, put the throttle where you need it and don't worry about it. The engineers got paid a bunch of money to make sure things work right throughout the operating range and within ops limits, so might as well use it.
The Tundra goes WOT on pretty much every trip back and forth to hunting camp. Its a two hour drive with most of it along a narrow, winding river canyon, so when its time to get around a line of cars you do what you need to make it happen.
I treat the same way I did my old 2005 2500HD, sold that one with just over 190k on it and never had an engine related issue, same with the wife's old 1999 Audi A4, gave that one to charity at 168k without ever having an engine or transmission problem. Our other newer vehicles have better power-weight and better lower RPM torque, they still get run, but WOT doesn't happen quite as often on those.

I go WOT every day. Your engine will probably have more issues if it's babied constantly.

294k and 600hp and I let that baby eat :D stock power you could probably run at WOT it's entire life and it wouldn't skip a beat.

But what about all other components on the same pulley? They get reptile along with the motor and surely, stuff like a water pump won't like 5rpm.

Also, I think my venza shpenza started leaking after I almost woted one time. 50kmiles

If you're worried then don't go WOT. But the rev limit wouldn't be set where it's at if those components couldn't handle it.

I believe rev limiter is set where if you venture past it, you'll most likely have parts flying.

Meanwhile Prospeed is tuning 600+hp 5.7s to rev out to 7k rpm. There’s a lot of things that come to mind as possible failure points if bouncing an engine off the limiter, but the water pump of all things has never crossed my mind. I thought I was a worrier but some of you make me feel like a carefree badass.

I was under the impression the go pedal was a binary object. Up or down... that in between stuff is for people who cant decide to go or stop.

All kidding aside. Once or twice a month driving an on ramp.
