What is the best code reader for my 2015 Tundra? And where should I go for the best deal on one?

An issue or just to have? Ultragauge has many functions, including a code reader.

You can get a handheld or Bluetooth diagnostics reader for pretty cheap on Amazon. Otherwise usually any auto parts store will read it for you for no charge

There's quite a lot to choose from, wish I knew more about the new engine diagnostics. These 3 were on Amazon prime

Does anyone even know what a timing light or feeler gauge was? lol

Techstream you can do more with. Ultragauge monitors fuel, intake temp, etc

If you have a smartphone, don't waste your money on a dedicated code reader. Just get a dongle that plugs into your diagnostic port and read/reset the codes on your phone.

it depends on the dongle and the app. Some of the apps are free, others charge money. Either way, yes, it will be unlocked and functional. This is the one I use. It's a little pricy but will do more than any dedicated code reader will do. Once you get it just download the BlueDriver app from the Apple App Store

I ended up with this one
    IMG_0745.PNG.jpg
It's able to do lots more than just engine codes and I don't mind that it's vehicle specific since I'm planning on the Tundra being the last one I buy. Hope it works out...

@bobeast or @gosolo, do your readers provide access to the dealer setup options like belt chime, DRL, etc?

I've got an old Sun timing light in storage. Haven't used it in decades. Still use my old feeler gauge.

I downloaded the users manual. It does perform some two way operations such as clearing codes, resetting the maintenance service interval, etc but it doesn't look like it provides toyota specific option programming.

No You can clear codes and read all the codes and parameters, but can't change the options. I have a Limited so I can change most of that stuff from the dash. What I can't change with that, I can use Techstream.

    Short review for anyone interested:
    This thing

    was worthless IMG_0745.PNG.jpg
Loading, registering, and connecting instructions were poor and contradictory.
Once I got through that I plugged into my truck and when prompted to enter required information: under Tundra "year" it only had 2000-2013. 2015 wasn't even an option:
    IMG_0761.jpg
When I had to make the choice of engine from this selection I decided that this piece of crap would be returned
    IMG_0760.jpg
If you're interested in a scan tool, skip this one.

    I'm back to square 1.

If you buy a wireless OBDII link, makecsure it has a power switch. The first one I bought didn't and the transmitter burned out. I bought one of these and it works great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GMRZH2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also bought an extension cord for the OBDII connector so I could get to the power switch easily. https://www.amazon.com/Diageng-Prof...d=1503109308&sr=8-10&keywords=Obdii+extension

I used it on my S-10, a lot.

I recommend the Dash Command software if you use an Iphone. I have an od Iphone 4 that I used just for the OBDII connection. http://palmerperformance.com/products/dashcommand/iphone/index.php

Like I said, it was a Chevy and I used it a lot.

After another 3 hours with no success I'm returning this and stand by my evaluation. Maybe the one I received is unusual because it's defective, maybe the one you have is unusual because it's not, who knows? Customer support is virtually nonexistent, centered out of Beijing.

You install the software on computer, take memory card out of tool plug into computer. then just run the software it will tell you when its done then just put card back in scanner. I just updated mine last night. works great for quick cheap scanner , the higher end autel scanners run android and update on wifi but those are spendy my maxisys was $3600

None of this was even suggested in the procedures either in the booklet provided or on line. I've moved on. You undoubtedly possess technical skills above mine. I'm inclined to feel strongly that if 1, they can't provide a product that self identifies and loads on start up, 2, can't write an install guide, alternatively, that accurately describes the needed steps, in order, & 3, doesn't support their product with customer service, then I would expect nothing but disappointment down the road.
I wish I had PM'd you for help, but didn't want to impose.
    Thank you for the response!

Honestly, Just buy a Mini-VCI Cable on Amazon and if you search real hard I bet you'll find a way to get Techstream. It's the easiest thing and it just kinda works. I just hooked mine up today and was off and running in very short order. If you want to know more you can PM me and I'll be happy to share what I bought etc. You can get the cable you need for less than $40 USD.
