    ewwwww

Flushed the coolant with about 3-4 gallons of fresh water. The first 1 1/2 gallons that came out were NASTY!

I let it idle and get warm enough for the t-stat to open with heat running full blast. Drained radiator, blew out the heater core with low pressure shop air and refilled/bled 4x times.

Finished up with a 22oz bottle of Prestone cooling system cleaner and bled/let it get to temp one more time.

I'll probably leave the system cleaner in for a day or two before I drain one last time and refill with water. Having water only will be nice wile doing the timing belt and not worrying about poising the dog or the shop cat.

Just curious if you had the youngest brother ride between the rear seat and the rear facing fold down seat. Youngest in my family (baby/booster seat excluded) always got tossed in there for being the smallest.

Oh yeah, the way back was for the youngest ones. There was definitely a station wagon hierarchy. I was second to the oldest so got to move toward the front. If it was a nine seater, three in the way back, 3 in the back, and the misbehavior in the front between Mom and Dad. This was known as the "Hot Seat" where it was easier for my Dad to utilize his good right backhand when needed. Me and the "Hot Seat" were one. :(

Man, you're lucky. Dad always got bench seats, and for the longest time we were stuck between Mom and Dad and had no benefit of distance. Dad driving, Mom shotgun, me and brother in between. Seat belts be damned.

It wasn't until I was finally hitting double-digits Dad bought a camper shell for the truck, and on any "significant" trip (more than an hour) requiring the whole family, sleeping bags got rolled into the bed, the shell went on the truck, and ... you know the rest of the story.

I **wish** we would've had a station wagon. At least we'd have had some climate control. The camper shell did have roll-out slat windows in the center section, which would at least get a breeze going, but it wasn't A/C.

Our Town & Country had an air deflector built in across the top of the rear window (you can barely see it in these pictures). Wood paneling, 2 youngest kids in the back row, 2 oldest in the middle row (more leg room). Tail gate opened to the side, or folded down like a tailgate. Rear glass dropped into the tailgate. On a holiday trip 3rd row was folded down, everything packed from 2nd row to tailgate up to the vehicle belt line & eldest child lay upon all the 'stuff' with 3 youngest in middle row. Roof box was built out of plywood the next year.

@DJenerated I think it was ok on the grill. The mirrors bothered me. We'll see how it grows on me. Taco vinyl is probably the long term solution on the grill.

Honestly, wheels and tires make a huge difference, hell just TIRES make a huge difference. If you need that extra something, temporary strut spacer is easy enough to install to stuff some 275 KO2s under the truck. @abcinv's truck is a prime example. Here's one from when he first joined.

I'm thinking about getting these exact tires (also looks like I just bought the same rims as you, nice!) and I'm curious about any rubbing. Since it has been a while since you mentioned "no, but haven't maxed out steering yet" I wondered if you've had any issues? Also about how much lift do you have? Any cutting / tubbing out / etc?

I have a 2003 access cab with a modest lift (I think around 2-2.5 inches*). For several years I've been running BFG KO2 in a weird tall skinny 235/85R16. I haven't loved them, for various reasons that may not be entirely their fault. Only got about 34K miles on this set, but I did have some suspension / alignment issues early on, and they seem to be reallllly loud (also perhaps mostly due to that early cupping).

I'm moving up to 17 inch rims and Discount Tire was pushing me towards the Falkens. Softer compound, quieter, better off-road / adverse conditions grip.

Aside from doing a dry fit, I'm not sure what size to get (275 or 285). I didn't think I could fit 285, but your rig looks very similar to mine and you aren't having issues, right?

Side question: when you removed the flares, did you have holes to fill in, or is the 2006 different in that regard?

*ICONs have a 2in gap showing the silver threads between the spring and the top, if that tells you anything. I am still trying to figure that out.

This is SO GREAT! This is what I always imagine making as I first head over to my hardware and spare junk jars, but I always find that what I really have in inventory is just sandwich bag twist-ties, a cool piece of broken tile, and some rusty nails.

You should not have any issues fitting 285/70/17's if you're lifted 2". Some people choose to trim a little but I didn't. I just barely rub when I'm reverse.

The first thing I did when I bought my Tundra last year was replace the rims and tires. The previous (original) owner swapped out the stock rims for these 18" chromies that were pretty rough after 18 years of Seattle rain. I really liked the Toyota 17" and with the new rims, tires, shocks, sway bars brakes and alignment she rides like a dream. Of course mine is just a two wheel drive trailer tower but, it feels very planted, smooth and accomplished in its work. I also like the way it looks. 20220108_130142 (2).jpg00m0m_1n1d4azqZcdz_0CI0t2_600x450.jpg

Same. My dad built a platform across the wheel wells. Luggage went underneath, Mattress on top. Me and my brother in sleeping bags for the 18 hour drive to Ohio with no AC. Peeing in the larger coffee cans with lids. Hot AF

Yup, only from CA<->FL for us, and if we beat on the glass and flail around enough they'd stop at a rest area or pull over for roadside leaks. Mom would hold up a yellow card and brown card and we had to point at which it was. No nice raised platform though, just sleeping bag straight on bedfloor ribs.
