We have a thousand miles on our new 23 limited in supersonic. Love the damn thing and especially the color.

But upon close inspection have found several flaws in the paint. Very light scratches.

Just curious if anyone else has noticed this. Tempted to try and get the dealer to paint correct this and then getting ppf. But I doubt I can persuade them to do it since we've put 1k miles on it.

That’s Toyota and Honda paint in my experience. It’s thin and not very durable.

I looked into getting ceramic coating. One of the shops I got a quote from talked about the softness of the paint on the newer Toyotas.

Car paint nowadays is more fragile and I think it relates to the switch to water based products. Early 90s vehicles I used to drive could get significant dents without breaking through the basecoat.

Did flaws occur in 1k of driving or exist at pickup and you did not see them? I know several folks including me that had to get some touch ups from paint pros due to rough treatment of product at ports getting accessories installed and delivery.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
Got a rock chip that went to the metal on my drivers door :(. Looking around to figure out which touch up paint pen is going to do the job.

Don’t use a paint pen. Get the pain color match and buy a really nice very fine craft paint brush.

Disagree on Honda paint. We’ve had a batch of Hondas and with 2x year waxing, very satisfied with the paint.

My 2020 Tundra I was thinking the paint was more weak compared to Honda.

If one is anal about paint, I highly recommend 3M vinyl clear wrap- clear auto bra. Had it on my previous Honda Pilot- for a 7 year old vehicle the exterior looked 9.5 out of 10, any flaws were in the wrap not the paint

How bad are the scratches? How many? In which locations? Photos?

It may be totally normal - dealer washes your truck after receiving it, and if the washing crew does a mediocre job - such as using dirty rags, sponge or brush then it all can put small scratches into the clear coat. When I was picking up my truck I told dealer not to wash or do anything to my new truck as I do washing and ceramic coating myself.

Do you go to car washes? They could have put in those small scratches into the clear coat as well...

So essentially these small scratches are normal unless you know the art of correctly washing your car - two separate buckets of water, inspect all sponges and towels, use clean microfiber towels for each panel to avoid contamination as dirt in towels can put in small scratches as well...

Have a professional detailer clay, polish to take out any scratches, then do the ceramic coating... No huge deal

Here's a link for you from a good source

Same here. I just bought the paint pen and clear pen from touch up direct. It was like $30. My chip is very small, but certainly frustrating with less than 200 miles!
