Hi, I have a 2011 tundra that I recently purchased. I believe it is making the timing tensioner noise. I took off the oil cap but couldn't see the tensioner moving. Gets the loudest at 2k rpm but is pretty quiet at idle as you can hear. Most of the time though people say it comes and goes but mine always makes the noise once the engine warms up. Any thoughts? Haven't tried seafoam in the oil yet. Here's the vid:

    Thanks everyone!

It sounds similar to mine, which I suspect is the tensioner. For what it's worth, mine has been like that since I bought it with 185k miles on it two years ago. I'm at 215k miles now, and it hasn't gotten worse or developed farther. I think the key is that when you get above an idle there is enough oil pressure to activate it, so the issue is only happening when sitting at idle.

Interesting. Does yours also get louder once you rev to 2k? Also have you tried any seafoam/engine flush? Think I'm gonna try that as well as switch from valvoline to mobil 1 in the off chance mobil 1 has an additive that frees up the tensioner. Don't think I'll mess with the oil weight though. Currently running 0w20, PO ran 0w20 since it had 50,000 miles on it.

Mine gets louder to a point and then goes away once I rev high enough.

I've done seafoam for a 100miles before almost every oil change. I haven't messed with a hot oil flush.

It's an old truck. If I want to fix I would probably be better off doing a full rebuild or dropping in a low milage used engine. Opening up the engine to get the tensioner is around a 14 hour book job.
