Currently over 11,000 miles on the odometer and the gas gauge just did it’s first mis-reading. I was on a steep boat ramp incline and it went from about half to full. Once I got home I did the “shut off in drive, etc” trick and it reset. Thanks forum helpers!

This didnt take long - truck back from shop yesterday afternoon and it reset to full again this afternoon. Every time in my driveway, slight incline. There is no fix here gents until Toyota gets one sorted out. Going back to the dealership next week and im bouncing this truck.

Where did you see that Toyota was changing this on 2024 model? I'm just curious, but based on everything youve said on this topic, i believe you are spot on. There is no fix to this issue currently.

I brought this up on my last service as one time I experienced the fuel level going to full and getting stuck there for a few drive cycles before I preformed the ODO button reset procedure. They did open a TAS case for me but they didn't recommend any repairs at this time because its still under investigation. 2023 - Build date 1/18/23. I only had the problem happen one time and its not repeated but I only have under 1300 miles and I've filled the tank a total of 4 times so far.

Yes sir, I've read all your posts on the topic. They are all very insightful. I appreciate the feedback. My build is 5/23 and it happens on every tank. The TAS definitely helps Toyota but they need to amp up the urgency, IMO. I am also talking to Toyota HQ via their IG page and they are actually helpful. This gauge trips every single time if it's parked in my driveway - slight incline - somewhere between 270 miles to empty up to 300. I'm going to back into my driveway next and see what happens. Here's what I do know. I am not paying $70k for a truck that cant gauge gas levels and my truck is repeating this issue on every tank. The problem is dumping this truck for another 2023 doesnt really improve my odds. Waiting for a 24, might if your intel is correct. Thats why I was asking. Thank you for your help and insight.

Did they open a TAS case before they did a hard reset and check calibration? My dealership had me go through both of those processes before a TAS case could be opened.

also, if you're not parking it on an incline - like a sloped driveway, it likely wont repeat often. The incline aspect to this is absolutely an aspect. Mine only trips back to full on a incline when its 300 miles to empty or less when its parked.

They opened a TAS case they didn't do anything to the combination meter. Mine is working fine at the moment, the gas gauge issue happened only once to me in the past.

The main thing I was asking about is that it seemed like CID-3 was one version behind but didn't match a TSB, so they were checking with TAS to see if the meter needed that update.

They claim mine is up to date, but health check shows that CID-3 there is an update available but I didn't push the issue as I'm not having any problem. The problem was more that I want to make sure mine has the update for the thing going blank.

The main thing here is I can understand that the level might be inaccurate. But my beef is that it seems to get stuck even after the condition clears. We can reset it manually and its fine so the meter is reading the right level at the time of the reset.

Even though it was said by ryan's insider source they can't fix it by software, they could still update the MID software to give us a "Reset fuel gauge" option at least as a short term workaround.

I do think that if people have problem constantly Toyota should come clean and let them get the updated tank and sending unit(s) under warranty.

Mine is constant. However, an interesting note. I drove from the Austin area today to College Station, Tx to take the daughter to her new apartment to start Texas A&M. Started with a full tank, and coming back hit the point where it should of tripped back to full, so i do some stops and checked it out. All flat surface and nothing moved on the gauge. When I got home I had roughly 220 miles to empty - about 70-80 miles less than when i normally trips back to full. Parked in my sloped driveway, then checked it again 30 mins later and it hasnt reset to full. Thats interesting on some level. It seems like theres a sweet spot within 30 miles or so that it will trip back every time but perhaps once the tank gets low enough it wont trip back over when parked on a slope? At this point its 100% parking this thing on an incline inside that sweet spot at 3/4 tank that trips it. Truck hit 1798 miles when I got home from trip. Love how it drives, btw.

It's anecdotes like this that make me wonder if I should wait for a '24 even if I can get a good deal on a '23 right now.

I wonder how likely it is to hit this problem. For you, it's all the time, which would drive me nuts.

It drives me nuts also which is why im posting everyday lol.... But, if you dont have an incline driveway where you park everyday, Id say your chances of having this as a constant problem are small. For me, mine only trips on the incline parking when its 3/4 full. All else is normal.

Thanks for the data point. Flat parking at home and work, so maybe it would be mostly a non-issue, except knowing that the bug exists.

For mine, the incline parking at 3/4 tank is the issue. It hasnt tripped to full on flat surface at all and i watch this issue like a hawk. 23 Platinum, 5/23 build date, 1700 miles

its her's, unless we go out together then i have to drive her around.

i prefer my 4runner over trucks, not really a truck person myself mostly due to needing FT 4wd during the winters up here since i have to go to work at 5am which is before the city/highway plows get out.

Same experience here. I just make sure that I back into my steep driveway so that the rear is lower than the front. If I nose down on the driveway, I get a free full tank of gas!

Thats interesting because my slope is nose up, rear lower, and thats what trips mine to full tank.

Toyota called me today about it and said they may start offering to buy back the truck. And if you decline the buyback any further issues will not be fixed. Which kinda sucks cause if I buy another one the rates are much higher now.

I also talked to Toyota today and that wasn't mentioned....however, I did go back to my dealership and we worked this out. I drove away today with a new truck... also a platinum trim. The dealership did the right thing and no games played. It's going to be interesting to see if I can break this one also. I'll keep you posted.

I was told there was a conference call for customer relation managers and that is an option they are tossing around.

2023 tundra sr. 5500k miles. on this thread today cause my fuel gauge did this stupid thing first time ever. Parked nose up in drive way. but unlike you guys my tank was just filled up. came home and parked. when started up again fuel tank shows only 1/4 full. At first I thought my neighbors sucked the gas out lol. then I realized I drive a new Toyota.

Keep us posted on this one please. If your tank is currently full, id be interested in knowing how you get the gauge to reset. Also, take it in and start the proces for a TAS case.

wouldnt it just be easier to just replace the old tank and install the new one with new internals? i mean its probably the same external dimensions as the old one.

That's a valid point, except they aren't even acknowledging that it exists. I didn't want to wait until whenever for a fix on this. The HQ rep did say they are working on fix but there's no ETA. That was the most i got from them. But yeah, if a new updated tank were actually available, thats a no brainer.

Gents.... 2nd Tundra Platinum...75 miles on it, just reset to full. The dealership worked with me very good on this switch after the TAS case. Toyota HQ told me to work through dealership, which i did. Yet, here we are again. Now...i am a customer that has had this issue with 2 brand new trucks inside 3 months. I am not going to accept this. Check back next week for updates. Its about to get real.
