Hello all 327500 miles and my second Tundra failure...
The starter failed and when it does no warning at all. I was able to take the heat sheilds off and tap it to start it and take it to the shop because I was leaving out of town for work. And I had the driveway blocked so the wife's car could not get out. Just be warned no warning when it goes out. Thank you Toyota for a fantastic truck.

I believe you're saying that the original starter failed at 12+ years and 327,500 miles. That seems like a good run. It giving you no warning....yea, that's kinda sucky. It's been a loooooong time since I've had a start go out but if memory serves me right there was some warning. You've made sure you don't have a related electrical wire issue?

What kind of 'warning' are we talking about?

Well the days when I was a young man a starter would drag or stay stuck even if it would click you still could force it over with a couple bumps of the ignition. Not on these tundras it just quits. I drove it to multiple stores yesterday with the wife so a bit of stop and starts no issues . I pulled in to the driveway to load up for work shut the truck off loaded it up, tried to start and just a click.

But mostly the post was to document my second failure on this 2011 tundra I'm really pleased with my purchase in 2011 1st was a rear wheel bearing, now starter. Beside routine maintenance.

That’s good to know how’s your engine and tranny? Have you ever done an oil analysis?

Never done a analysis on oil but everything still runs good. I tow a 8000 lbs camper with no issues. It is my daily driver I put about 28000 miles a year on it.

Often times with these Toyota starters it’s not the starters electric motor thats failed, it’s the copper contacts that have worn out. $13 worth of parts.

Correct, starter motor rarely fails. I remember back in the old days, you'd get the thrust mechanism fail, the one that engages starter motor to the engine flywheel or the bushings would fail and motor starts to rub on the body, pulling like gazillion amps.
