Check out these brand new AT's I saw today..

ive talked to someone who put them on, and so far so good, but too soon to give an informed review. I Will say this, i handled the tires and their Erated felt softer than other erated tires ive had my hands on. As for the duratracs, ive seen several reports of them getting noisy acropss the interweb.. i just put falken wildpeaks on my 1st gen 265 70 17 in erated and am very pleased with them so far, but again, too soon to give an informed review.. but ya so far very impressed. very quiet and comfortable.

Abunch of people in my little town have been buying them so as i run into people who are ill be sure to ask and report back here.

 

Those look good! Michelins are my favorites, but a slightly bumpy street tire does not an AT tire make. If these are good for noise, wear, and quality, maybe the move I make! Bonus if the lettering says 'TYRE' here in NC!

 

5 are sitting in my garage currently. Waiting on my RRW group buy to ship. So hopefully I will be able to give an informed review, but it will still be awhile.

 

I would totally try those tires if the price point was right.

I am a huge fan of the Kanati tires (Mud Hog, Trail Hog, etc). Never been too blindly loyal to one type of tire as it's been my experience they all let you down at some point. With tire costs going through the roof, as is everything else, I'm open to saving some bread (without compromising safety and performance).

 

So.. I bit the bullet and picked up a set of these in the P rating stock size of 275/65r18. There has been no noticeable increase of tire nose thus far. I've only put about 1000km on them so far. I will say, they do seem to have a soft side wall. With the stock tire pressures of 30psi front and 33psi rear, the front tires look like they are low and the sidewall seems to bulge a little. I've increased the front pressure to 33 psi. It seems to have remedied the bulge, but it does make the steering feel a little flighty or light and a little bouncy.. So I'm going to play with the pressure a little. The rears at 33psi don't seem to have this issue, but I haven't had any weight in the bed yet, so I cant comment on if that will pose an issue.

That being said, I an happy with the tires so far. In the dry they seem to stick like glue.. We've had a little rain here (southern Ontario), and they don't seem to break loose on wet surfaces any more than the stock tires did. I haven't driven thru any heavy rain yet so that's still an unknown still. They do seem to retain the fresh rubber smell even a week later on warmer days (30 degrees C). This could be a result of the soft tire compound, or other factors. I remembered this smell from a set of Nokian winter tires I had. It would be noticeable if running the tires on warmer days. Maybe a result of the compounds and additives Nokian uses?? I will post more as I put more mileage on them.

Yesterday I was parked next to a truck that had Cooper Rugged Treks. They were on my list but I passed because when I bought tires they did not make a 10 ply in my size. After seeing them I wish I had bought them instead of the BFGs.

 

Interested! Always looking for a good tire option on the AT market. I’ve owned Cooper Discoverers, BFG KO’s, KO2’s, Toyo AT3 and General Grabber atx. Good results from most, but lately been partial to the Toyos. I’ll keep my eye on this thread. In the market for some 35’s for the Tundra.

 

So.. A follow up on the Nokian Outpost AT tires in the P-metric sizing.. They seem to be wearing quite nicely, and the tire nose is not any more then I experienced as new. I still have not driven through heavy rain as of yet.. I always seem to be at work or asleep when that happens.. lol.. They still stick like glue in the dry.. I've settled on 31.5 psi for the front tire pressure.. 33 psi seemed too "bouncy" in the front end.

I have found that I am developing a slight wobble in the steering. I experienced this previously with some Goodyear Duratracs I had on a 2012 Nissan Frontier. I used to take a local toll road (Ontario's 407) that is paved with concrete (with lineal grooves) instead of asphalt. Even on my motorcycle this highway always seems to cause a wobble.. It may be causing uneven tire ware.. As this is a toll road, I have since found alternate routes that are not this construction.. We'll have to see if this effects the wobble in the long term or if it goes away..

I plan to rotate the tires and either have them rebalanced (the installer uses a "road force balance" system), or install counteract balancing beads.. I will do some searching on here regarding the balancing beads, or someone could chime in with their experiences.

 

Got mine a month ago. 275/70R18...slightly more noisy than OE Michelins. Like the look and feel...only rained a couple times, was fine. Sticky dry and rides smooth, no notice of any pull/wobble. We'll see on wear. Only negative, those big-A** treads hold and throw big gravel!

thats because anything over 295 in width in load e is limited to 65# air pressure. To get 80# you have to go to a load f.

Irrelevent but I have 35” rugged trek on my tundra in load f and so far have been quite pleased.

 

At shop now talking to service manager. The Rotiva AT has been discontinued and the Outpost is it's replacement

 

I had Cooper Discover ATP II installed and so far I like them. They are a 10ply but ride is not harsh, good firm feel for the road and very positive reviews.

Just bumping this thread, @TheDanimal, @Crazzy450z & @Tundar the Barbarian any recent update on these tires? Mostly wet weather/rain driving?

 

Posted on the other Nokian thread...8k.rotation today, still like them. Quiet, smooth, solid. Shows lower gas mileage, but that may be size difference. Downpours, noticed it pulls a little more.to the side plowing through deep water than OE Michelins. I think just function of being a bit wider. Once it spun on right turn on wet road, and I wasn't flooring it or anything...kind of surprised me. That's all I got!

 

Following, my old man likes this brand of tire. Good to have another decent option on the radar

 

I borrowed a neighbor's Chevy today that has a fresh set of these on it. They were very smooth and quite. They are 20" P rated tire he had on his.

haven’t been able to find these anywhere yet, like to see them in person to see how the void channels compare in size.

 

I have the outpost A/Ts on mine, 265/75/16, and have been so impressed. These are an ‘all weather’ LT tire, and have great winter traction (I drove cross-country with them in February through all sorts of nasty stuff and not once did I have an ‘oh shit’ moment), excellent summer traction and decent wearing (there is a gauge imprinted into the tread that shows 80%/60%/40% as it wears and I’m between 80 and 60%, with about 40 thousand km/25 thousand miles , and QUIET, unlike most A/T tires. And they are really inexpensive compared to the popular A/Ts from other companies. They are probably contributing to my 18-20 mpg highway mileage, but I have no previous tire on the truck to be comparing to. Most of my miles will be on pavement, so sound quality and decent fuel economy are priorities for me, and when this set wears out I will be replacing them with the same.
I have also just ordered a set of the Outpost APTs for our Rav4. Clearly, I’m sold.

Ended up picking up a set of these in LT275/70R18 on sale at $1,500 CAD tax in for 5 tires (spare). Seemed like too good a deal to pass up on and they’re supposed to be made by Cooper. I’m hoping they do well this winter.

Waiting until the fall to change out the stock Michelins. With OEM tire, could hear a slight slapping but not too distracting, averaged about 18 mpg over 60,000km. (~40k mi) stock tires did very well in dry/wet, okay in snow, terrible on ice.

 

I’ve been looking for a set of these for months. After several weeks of phone calls and email exchanges with DT, they are no longer available (despite DT’s website showing them available in 1-5 days). The tires were originally produced in Russia but due to the Russia Ukraine conflict, Nokian apparently abandoned the factory and walked away without tire molds and such.

They built a new factory in Tennessee and are ramping up production of the new Outpost NAT, which stands for either North American All Terrain or New All Terrain, but they have to retool without the advantage of having the original molds. So far there are only a few 18”’ sizes but nothing bigger than a 265/65r18. A few months ago, they only had 5 or so sizes. Now there are almost 15 different sizes. So that’s encouraging.

I spoke with a local Nokian dealer about them last week. They are unable to get anything for our tundras (265/70r18, 275/65r18, 275/70r18, 285/65r18, etc). But their Nokian rep was there a week or two ago and said they they expect to be in full production by early 2024.

I’m really hoping that they will have at least a stock size 275/65r18 available in the next two or three months before the snow shows up.
I’ll either be getting these if they are available or Firestone XT’s. The Nokian are at the top of the list, though, partly because did the aramid fiber casing but also because it looks to meet or exceed all my needs.

 

I had falken at3/w and they were only slightly louder than my stock Bridgestone, I kept them for 25k and then got a level kit and went up a size to an LT falken wildpeak RT, which seems to be heavier as I can feel it from a dead stop, but are only slightly louder than the at3w

 

My current set will be shot in a month or two, so that isn’t very good timing.

 

Right?! I’ve got a little more life left in my tires than that, but I don’t like running them down to nothin’ especially when snow hits the ground. I really hope they get a suitable size in to production soon. Funny thing is Nokian doesn’t show them on their website. At least, they didn’t. Maybe they will officially list them soon.

 

This is my understanding as well. I think most if not all of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta were made in that Russian plant too. They started showing as back ordered in late 2021 and never came back in summer of 2022. I ended up finding some random left overs on a small online tire company (315/70r17 studded). This will definitely set back Nokian sales in the US/Canada as the Hakkas are the preferred snow tire for many, whom will now have to switch to competitors.
