I’m surprised U-haul never had a Tundra as a successor to the original v6 taco box truck.

it would be too reliable, which would go against the whole concept behind U-haul.

Even reliable has its downfall when maintenance is ignored...

but is the frame "shifty approved"...?

    lol jk :D

side note: why do I always see these with the front bumper sagging? is this just a tell tale sign of fender benders or is it a common issue with this truck.

Sometimes people forget to brace their front tire while the rear is jacked up. Later, they lower the rear end with a floor jack while in neutral and it slowly rolls into the garage door when they’re not looking. Don’t ask me how I know.

You should try disconnecting the drive shaft while on a slight slope without using chocks or the hand brake...

Also gives me an idea for next T2S... Anyone know how to make stickers? We could have exclusive BGC stickers to hand out at T2S and I guess we could also have separate Honorary BGC stickers. Just so nobody cries. :D

Where can i order BJ's straight to my house? Serra of birmingham, which i think is where i ordered my integration relay at a heavy discount doesnt have em in their parts finder. Do i just need to call? Is the toyotapartsdeal site the real deal?

    IMG_3700.png

do i reuse the 'protector'? Or order new ones?

$30/ea for protectors? Seems kinda steep for some plastic. & unavailable.

If it were me, I'd order the recall kit to save a dozen bucks or two, and just order from McGeorge.

Last time I ordered from Serra, they charged tax under the new system, which pretty much negates my main reason for purchasing with them - good discount, free ship, no tax.

If you can use the FREESHIP coupon with McGeorge and buy the recall kit, which comes with L & R LBJ, but no castle nut, and no bolts, you'll probably come out ahead.

ToyotaPartsDeal is what it is... it's not a dealership, but they claim to source from whichever legitimate dealership they can get the parts from, cheapest, to meet their claimed price.

Is the recall kit a fit for the earlier models? I know some of the hardware changed.

What makes it a kit then? I don't understand. It's just 2 ball joints. I agree with ordering from McGeorge but last time I looked it was cheaper to order from them direct than to use the parts program and free shipping.

Maybe. But have you never called a Toyota parts employee and given them your vin? I did recently and was told my LBJ's were replaced under the recall in 2006. If yours haven't been, they'd probably tell you in the phone if they'd be covered.

@Mr.bee i just purchased new LBJ's from my local Toyota guy. He told me there were a lot of changes between 2001 - 2003 so he spent a long time double, triple checking everything. As far as I know, you and I started with the same 2002 AC, but he suggested OG 1st gen years always do a vin check before buying LBJ's because there were changes made mid-year. FWIW.

Here's what he sold me. I'll have them put in during reassembly after an upcoming gear upgrade.

    Another option:

If you want, PM me your vin. I'll call my parts guy and have him run it to tell me about any open recalls, as well as to spec the correct LBJ's. Then you'd know if it's worth $ to call a dealer, or not.

I was curious about that too - those are just the numbers I scrounged up for recall kits. No dealerships that sell the recall kit will actually confirm fitment either - none that I found at least. Which made it fuckall impossible to verify.

I dunno, in my case, I can pay $95 for each LBJ separately, which gives no castle nut and no bolts.
Or I can buy the recall kit which was $165 at McGeorge last I checked, which also gives no castle nut and no bolts.

Maybe you like throwing away $25 here or there, I don't.

FWIW, I've always tried to use the Lithia Toyota of Billings, MT. Probably not very close to you, but they are normally quick to ship, use the FREESHIP code, and have had the best discount. Though, I think Toyota boogered up online discounts when they boogered up their parts website. There have been a few times where the person I talked to on the phone gave me a better price than what was online.

I've wondered the same thing, did we get the good one's from 2000-2001?

In the 50 J recall pdf attached, there is a mention of a still active link one can go to, input your Tundra VIN # and it gives you Part Number for a particular model and production date. Of course, even tho Safety Recalls never expire, it's been 16 years and even their suggested part #'s at that link might have changed.
