You can find LT trim packed trucks with the upgraded convenience package (leather) for reasonable.

This isn't one of them, but you can drop down to a LT with Duramax

I thought you would like this New 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 LT w/ Convenience Package for $66275 on Autotrader http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/27FAA3CE

Good conversation. Driving a large, heavy HD diesel daily is neither fun nor is it good for the engine if you aren’t running it for extended periods of time. Driving a Tundra daily is enjoyable and pretty practical for many of us truck owners. I’m hooking up my 17’ boat or utility trailer with a mower or wheeler on it around 4x per week and neither need an HD to do it. When I pull our camper I use a WDH and keep the speed reasonable and safe and feel very confident doing so.

I enjoyed daily driving my '17 Denali Duramax the entire 7 miles back and forth to work.

Did this for 4-1/2 years with no issues at all and wish I wouldn't have gotten rid of it. It would regen while out on the interstate pulling our trailer.

And it rode and handled fine.

IMHO, lighter and smaller can be more “fun” to drive. A sport quad rips compared to a big 1000cc 4x4 quad. A sports car is a blast to drive compared to a heavy sedan. If daily driving consists of parking lots and traffic and quick bursts I’ll take smaller, lighter, quicker every time. A Tacoma with a spunkier engine would be a blast.
So it comes down to personal preference and needs.

    That's definitely cool.

For this city boy, seeing them anywhere is always a treat.

Waking up in this campground and having them wandering around while I drank my coffee was an enjoyable way to start the day.

Thermal cycling on the injectors/motor. If a person trades up every 4 years (or stays in manufacturer warranty of 5 years/100k miles) I wouldn't worry about it.

The truck will do exhaust regens more often, and that costs you more at the pump (every exhaust regen is 1.5 gallons or more). When owners don't fully complete regens, this takes a lot more fuel than normal, but if you don't have time to run constant speed for 20-25 miles....

I will to a mobile regen if I'm getting close to my soot levels and have a 30 min drive left. That way I know it's fully completed.

Lately I have been daily driving my Duramax due to my wife's Subaru being totaled from hail. I love the hell out of my truck, but can't wait until our replacement vehicle is in her garage so I can get my Lexus daily back. Easier to drive, park, wearing out a much cheaper vehicle..etc.

    Yep.

Even in town there are deer everywhere in my area. Deer are a nuisance to honest.

A few weeks ago my next door neighbor got a photo of a big male mountain lion on her trail camera in her backyard.

They're a plague up here too (deer). I teach them some tap dancing lessons in the key of .22LR every once in a while when they get too friendly with the garden.

Also on the roads. Bright lights and a light go pedal are keeping me from color matching my grille and front bumper (thankfully).

Maybe if your daily drive is 8 miles round trip but I've driven modern diesels for north of a 100k daily and have never had any issues as have most of my friends. My 6.7 ford I daily drove with no issues from the regen to 60k. My BIL is at 180k on his cummins with no issues and got another friend at 220k on his dmax that just started getting NOX sensor issues. Mom and dad's dmax is at a 100k and it's driven off and on with no issues from the regen. But all of them drive more than 30 miles round trip.

Agreed. My one way commute is 39 miles to work, so I don't worry about it either. The closest store we have is 9 miles away, otherwise I would get more concerned.

On the flip side, daily driving a diesel truck to get back and forth from work is kinda wasteful. I've done it on pre-emissions diesels and they had a "few" issues with under 10 mile commutes. Everything cost more on these trucks to replace. Nobody can argue that with me (except diesel right now...that's cheaper).

Agree on a heavier tow vehichle MAY be more stable. Not argueing that. My point is simply the weight of a tow vehicle is not have a definite direct link to tow rating. This is also basic engineering, more weight for a tow vehicle is not directly linked to towing capacity. The best examples are 1500 diesels with middle of the road tow capability due to their weight. I do agree an ideal heavy tow rated vehicle is a “450/4500 etc” which is heavy and tows heavy but was not my point.

Nice! Not to get too far off topic, but there are places in the Southeast where deer have overrun the land. Tennessee allows harvesting 3 does per day from September through the first week of January. It's NUTS how many deer we have. They are so numerous that coyotes are becoming a major problem. TWRA chipped a bunch of whitetail fawns a few years ago, and only 20-something percent of them made it to one year; more were lost to coyotes than to any other single factor.

A friend of mine can hunt nearly year round outside DC where the deer are a major suburban nuisance. A wooded suburb with lots of delicious plants is like a huge buffet to them. They eat people's landscaping, and people just replant them. It's like refilling a dog's food bowl, lol. It's pretty easy to get a nuisance permit, even out of season, in a lot of places.

    Pssssshhhh 80K.

    That’s nothing.

A 2nd Gen Tundra with a V8 once pulled the space shuttle.

Therefore semi’s are weak compared to a 2nd Gen Tundra.

    Damn right.

Remember the 1911 pistol won two world wars, and the Tundra towed the Space Shuttle. So that makes them the bestest ever in their respective fields.

    LOL that was sarcasm.

Not that I have anything against 1911’s. I just bought a second 1911’ish pistol. Once I finish vetting it after tuning the slide stop, I’ll probably carry it. Too bad the first owner didn’t send it back to Wilson Combat for adjustment. Then again if he had, I wouldn’t have been able to snag it for $1000 off list. A few thousands removed with a file from the inside surface that contacts the magazine follower where magazine bodies were hitting under recoil, and a carefully filed and polished detent notch for the plunger to snap into and viola: no more premature slide lock. Still functions on an empty mag rendering slide lock, but now takes deliberate activation to lock the slide. Perfect so far. Runs 100% as of the last adjustment with all magazines. Two more 18 rounders inbound to be vetted with duty ammo.

When we move to lower elevation and not so many high elevation passes, can't say I will have a diesel. Maybe. See what we are doing after retirement and my kids are in college or whatever.

It’s not the diesel but a buddy just snagged a Denali 2500 6.6 gasser to tow his camper. It’s a pretty damn plush ride. I wouldn’t want to daily it through Beacon Hill in Boston but around here it’s not bad at all.

How is that Denali 2500 any more difficult to daily than a crew cab Tundra with the 6.5ft bed? Both trucks have a near enough identical footprint for parking etc.
