Recently my tailgate lost the slow open when you open by hand or by fob. Anyone deal with this and is there a fix I can do myself?

just had it at the dealer for oil change and don’t feel like taking it back so soon.

Probably had the strut fail. Can you replace it yourself? Probably, but why wouldn't you warranty it?

Ya if it’s something like a strut fail then I’ll get that warrantied.

Well, the strut is what slows it, so I would say it's probably a safe bet it has had a failure or has become disconnected.

I would assume it would be a wear item, but with how its under warranty, let us know if they fix it. Sounds like the strut failed and it is way to early for that.

Maybe I’m dumb but I’m looking and there is no strut that I can see. Only contact points are the cables and the hinges where I assume is where the failure occurred.

I guess I’ll be taking it back in

The strut is inside the fender and connects to the hinge, IIRC. Drop under the truck and look up into the fender behind the taillight.

If you pull the tail light off it will be right there. People will be replacing these starting in 5-8 years as they start to wear out. I saw when I was installing my swing boxes.

Hope the Dealer hooks you up :fingerscrossed:

I doubt it would fail this early, so I bet it has come loose.

Can you hear it banging around when you lower/raise the tailgate, or when driving?

So interesting point. There is banging when I shut doors or slam tailgate but I’ve always attributed it to the more loose tailgate cable
    On that side.

I have some time off tomorrow and will take a closer look.

I had the same issue with mine right out of the gate. Had to get it repaired under warranty.
