Dude, we were literally just having this discussion this morning. We went out to breakfast then hit the local farmer's market, of course the kids (7&9) wanted some little trinket shit there. We said nope, you don't need to buy something every place you go. Had a big discussion on savings and the difference between want and need on the way home.

After thinking on when I was mowing the yard, they only know what they see and have. It's our job to break it down in a way where they can understand.
I asked my wife to find a video on poverty in America that we can watch tonight.

Amen. My son moved in with me at 15 and had ZERO concept of money. I had a little side job back then and the first time I took him with me, I paid him 10 an hour, cash. . We worked 6 or 7 hours, I gave him what he earned and wanted to stop by gamestop on the way home. He walked out almost in shock and stated how he'd worked all day for one game. . I said yeah, welcome to the real world.
