Shit - I could do the seat belt chimes for half that price and not need a HF battery pack to keep my laptop charged

I must confess I am surprised by your guys's criticism of the tuning (not offended, I have no skin in the game.) I figured having the laptop hooked up to a battery pack shows professionalism when he could have just charged the laptop to full battery and assumed the charge would last long enough. And as far as the multimeter being a harbor freight model, All he was doing was checking the voltage of the battery when I shut my truck off to see how it was doing, not like he was doing super intense and precise work. Again not upset in the slightest just surprised at your guys' reaction lol

If the guy wasn't here on vacation from Colorado my nearest tuning opportunity would have been a different tune and about an hour and a half one-way drive

Seemed legit to me. I think it was just a way to keep in the vein of friendly ball busting of the group. If you want your balls coddled and caressed instead of busted... well @Azblue isn't gay, but $20 is $20.

    :p:p

Speaking of the tune, and the limited driving I have done, it's a very small improvement but I can see how earlier third gen's with worse drivability would really be impressed. I still have to reserve final judgment though because there are so many driving situations that have to occur so I can compare against how it was before. He also said that it can take several full tanks of gas for the tune to really come into itself. Haven't even really played with ECT much yet either. Also very interested to see gas mileage, it was decent on the way home but that stretch of road always is decent.

Oh yeah, like I said, no skin off my back. It wasn't me doing the tuning and it wasn't my setup but I seem to have contrary opinions to people all the time so sometimes I like to understand why lol

I'm quite interested in your overall impressions and long term (however long the Taco lasts you before you get the Ridgeline you've always wanted) review of the tune. I only find the overdrive shifting annoying once in a while and I'm mostly ok with the stock truck, and knowing that you are of a similar mindset makes your opinion of the tune far more valuable for me than the rantings and railings of TW.

Oh I will definitely post a full review. Most likely in my build thread on Tacomaworld. As you guys all know on here I don't hold back with my vehicles, so it's going to get the full gamut of testing. I'm going to try out shifting the gears myself in S mode, going to play around with ECT, going to do both freeway and highway speeds to see if the mileage has gone up, all kinds of stuff. I'm also going to see how different it performs while towing my boat because pre-tune there is no way I could just leave it in drive, it would shift up and down way too much so I would have to put it in S4.

Pretty good overall. We had a couple nice days at the beach on the lake we were at and found a bunch of raspberries while hiking.

Indeed. I still need to get the bed stiffeners on, but I'm still cringing about drilling holes in the truck. Not a fan of piercings and all that.

I'm right there with you in not liking drilling holes but as far as installation goes if I can do it you can do it. I would just recommend having some sort of rust-proofing spray on hand so after you drill the holes spray the back side that's towards the tail lights to prevent it from rusting and then you can obviously spray the holes on the bedside too and even the bolts if you want. I didn't spray the bolts because they are out of the elements in the topper but I definitely sprayed the backside down good on both sides of the bed.

In the plans for sure. The whole aversion to drilling holes is because of corrosion, so paint/coating after is a must.

I should install that as well, though I'm far less likely to need it in the Taco. I've been so much busier lately that trips with water crossings are not really in the plans.

To make the install go as nice as possible I went out and bought the tools the instructions called for (besides the sockets/wrenches) so I knew I would have everything I needed in good working order. It was a fresh sharp and correct size drill bit, and a torx bit set for the bed bolts and tie down bolts, and an automatic center punch.

That's my plan as well. I'll probably by a drill as well. Only one I have is an old school plug in dewalt, and I'd rather have a cordless.

Corded drills are known to cause less rust. The battery will polarize the shavings and make more particles stick around to rust
