Hell yes, I'd go there 1000 times before ever spending another vacation in Jasper or Banff. We drove through Jasper last weekend on our way home from BC. I was reminded why I hate it so much. Bloody tourists!!! Sure is beautiful country there, but the most beautiful areas are instantly ruined by an influx of people.

I need to get out to Manitoba and wet a line. I was just a kid last time I was there. I have family in Sask and the fishing in that province can be surprisingly good. I like Sask too, big province and very few people outside of Saskatoon and Regina. :)

I hope to be heading up to the Duck Mountain area in August for some camping.

My plan is to hit up "Twin Lakes" with the canoe, some spinning rods, maybe my fly rod and target some Tiger Trout. This would be my first time.

We will be a 30 minute drive to this lake. Normally, it's 5hrs from my house.

Nice. I have yet to catch a tiger trout. Dunno what my excuse is, there's a lake about an hour from town that has them.

I tend to hate on Banff as well but it is a pretty majestic place. We usually end up there twice a year, the last 2 trips being for beer fest (was awesome) and a camp/ski trip. Going in the off season is key.
I usually get an attitude check pretty fast as things like having big ass elk wandering through camp is a common sight.
i do hear you though, I avoid it 90% of the year.
Edit: to be clear, im not the moron approaching wild life. I was in the truck when he approached, turned the engine off and let him pass as not to disturb him.

It's pretty, that's for sure but the scenic views it offers are about it for me. I have deer, elk, moose, bear, lynx, caribou etc all within an hour drive or less from my front door though and none of them are tame "pets" like the parks have. The national park wildlife doesn't excite me as much since I guess I'm spoiled living where I do and having exposure to truly wild animals on a relatively regular basis.

We live in the city, but half a km away from one of North Americas largest urban forests (where Martha (dog) and I trail run) along with small forests, full of wildlife. No lynx or caribou, but deer, coyote and the odd fox are seen regularly on our trail runs.

We also have a clover forward front lawn, so this is a normal scene in the evening for us. Maybe not 7-8 deer, but 2-3 every evening and mid-afternoon. We walk out the front door and they just stand there. I love it when they just lay there and enjoy it.

People stop and take pics or drive by slow, as they all congregate on our lawn to eat the clover.

Grass does suck. It takes forever to grow, requires water and mowing weekly.

We took out 5-6 large spruce trees, so were starting from scratch. We put down soil, seed, watered and had clover popping up 4-5 days later and a full lawn withing a few weeks. It's awesome. We have had a clover front lawn for 3 years now.

When I overseed with clover in the back, I just scattered it over the grass. It's slowly taking and we are hoping to get a 50-50 blend, as opposed to the front which is probably 80-20 in favor of clover. It also resists dog pee staining and is super soft to walk on.

It's tiny small, so can be mixed with sand to seed. It won't work with just clover in a spreader as it's too small, it's just falls right though.

Once established, it's basically maintenance free. It chokes out the weeds, requires no watering and you only have to mow it if you don't want the "white" tops or it's gets too thick and rolling like my pic.

We buy it from a well respected nursery here. White micro clover is that you want. It's becoming more popular with people and even our city is considering it for boulevards now.

It will work best if you had some topsoil on top of it, but it will still grow without. I use it on bare spots or dead spots and can usually see it sprouting up within a week, it does require watering until it grows (a week or so).

Lots of info online about it but I'm happy to answer anything I can

I cleaned up some typos, but you probably figured them out.

I've probably only mowed my front lawn twice this year and zero watering.

When I first started researching clover, it was interesting. It was very popular up until the 1940s and then companies started putting herbicides and labelling it a "weed".

It's come full circle now and people realize it's benefits. It has negatives as well, people just have to decide if it's right for their application.

The last year or two it has really taken off online with people praising it and endorsing it. Reminds of when Vinyl (LPs) started making a comeback in the early 2000s. I seem to have gotten into both of them before the masses took to it.

To me, there's always something very calming about wildlife (even predatory wildlife) just living and doing their thing; especially when it's in your own yard or neighborhood...

One of the small towns in Coastal WA was very high on our interest list when we were looking for a place to retire to because of the deer that would just casually meander through town... Unfortunately it was a very small community that was somewhat grid locked by reservation lands, so we downgraded our interest in it. But, it was awesome to wake up and see them roaming or be getting ready for dinner and seeing 'em out and about right at dusk

Ok, I have to say, ran across this totally by chance but you caught my attention. I’m sick of trying to care for our weed - I mean, lawn collection. It’s a big job trying to keep a lawn growing, so something easier would be great.
A question - how does the clover deal with heat and dryness? It gets toasty here in the summer (30+, sometimes 40), and the last few years, not a lot of rain in the summer.

It is drought resistant and once established, requires no external watering. No weed and feed, no fertilizer needed as it naturally fertilized itself.

It is not the best for high foot traffic, unless mixed with grass. But I haven't noticed that common "negative" associated with it.

That is based on my research and first hand use in Canada for a few years.

I sound like a spokesperson for the stuff or have share in it. A few of my coworkers are concerts though, once I told them and showed them. My neighbour was asking me about it a few weeks ago as he's sick of caring for his ditch and wants to plant it.

I have a friend whose yard is all clover. He loves, i hate it. Looks like an unkempt field to me and the flowers are ugly to my eye, just like dandelions. I grew up around lush green grass in yards though.

I also actually enjoy mowing and trimming the lawn. It's an hour or two of me time per week to hang out in the yard, play with some power tools and listen to podcasts while sipping bourbon. I'm wierd like that. I enjoy cutting, splitting and stacking firewood too, never get tired of it.. Lol.

Ha, I know what you mean.

For years, people have been told grass should be this color green and this many millimeters tall, like a golf course. As trendy as it is right now, clover will never take over grass for the majority of lawns, unless we see a worldwide ban on watering lawns.

My back yard is mainly grass, I enjoy moving it with a reel mower, double cut it varying directions, usually twice a week, but keep it on the longer side as I find it nicer to walk on. I also enjoy cutting and staking wood, with an axe, sipping on a Cherry Pepsi for me though.

Well, it sounds promising, anyway! At this point, I’m willing to give it a shot.
I’m not worried about foot traffic (well, one dog), and the grass just dies off or turns to weeds anyway. I’m sure the deer will like it too.
Thanks for the info - I’ll have to go visit our local garden store and get some.

My grandpa's yard is legitimately a golf green. He has a golf course grade mower and everything. I prefer my lawn a few inches deep (giggidy).

Axes are the best way to cut wood, and none of those soulless fiberglass handled ones. I have a Gransfors-Bruk splitting maul that is a pleasure to use.

That's awesome! how long was the wait?

btw fellas and gals, the thought of possibly some change came into my mind, how much you guys think I can ask for my truck in today's market? the main bits

    - 2021 Lunar Rock
    - Magnuson supercharger
    - Nitro 5.29s
    - Fox 2.5 DSC and Icon Billet UCA
    - Stoptech BBK
    - skinny 35s

i have a 2013 limited, supercharged with 137k km and I would probably ask $40k.
Seeing as people are asking $40k for tacomas with 150k km i think its more than reasonable.
FYI there is a fella posting on kijiji alberta/BC looking for a truck just like yours, search supercharged tundra on kijiji. I contacted him but got cold feet and backed out, he was interested though.
May be worth contacting him and see what he offers.

i did not get to the offer point as I realized it would be silly to sell a good truck just because i was slightly bored.
Would be worth asking him, may give u an idea of what people are willing to pay.
