That's exactly what I've said! Although my '89 Isuzu Trooper was still one of my favorites I've owned.

I used to have a 94 Trooper. Loved that car. Never left me stranded.

I know it's a completely different category .... but Mommas also love Siennas. I had a XLE 2010 for a while, and it had good zip (v6), and the ride was impeccable. Far more cargo space than a Sequoia. And a whole lot cheaper.

They come in FWD and AWD. The non hybrids can tow a small amount too.

I wouldn't get a hybrid for other reasons, but that's a different story.

I refuse to have anything to do with hybrids or EV's for a whole lot of reasons. But yeah we're just not van people, couldn't give you a reason why, just not our thing.

Don't knock it until you try it? :) I love my tundra... but driving the Sienna was acceptable. And my wife loved it. And the young family I sold it to with a few youngins and a newborn, the mom just loved it.

There are minivans ... and then there are siennas. Just make sure it's an XLE.

Hah fair enough. I told her it was 100% up to her what she ended up with, so I'll mention it this weekend and see if I can grab a picture of the reaction I get.

We had a Sequoia (wife's car) we bought new in 2011 and sold it last year with 117k miles. The only problem we had was the fuel tank sensor went out at 100k miles. Replaced the fuel pump altogether at the dealer for $800. That was the only problem we ever had with it. It was a bulletproof tank with plenty of room. We really miss the space now that we moved on to a 2022 Lexus GX. The GX drives awesome, but the kids are tighter in the back which results in more fighting. 100% recommend the Sequoia.

Wagoneers and Grand Wagoneers look like Tahoes and Suburbans to me. I cant recall if that "new" squared look started with the new Bronco or the new Land Rover Defender, but it appears to be the "it" thing right now.

We went through the 'wife needs a new vehicle' about a year ago and ended up with a Suburban, but we have 3 kids, 2 dogs, and daily carry strollers/groceries/whatever. Only jumping on because I also wanted a 2nd gen Sequoia but some of the new features have been REALLY nice that you'll miss out on (I was genuinely surprised how creature comforty they are after now owning the vehicle for a half year +). Eg. 360 cams with birdseye, adaptive cruise, pano roof, heated seats/steering wheel which operate independently based on outside temp, independent rear climate controls, foot-swipe rear door, and anti-collision braking to name the major ones.

Went to look at a grand highlander yesterday for the Mrs. Completely sold and look forward to buying one in a bout a year or so. Lots of limited options available without hybrid and the only thing missing from the platinum (and also nearly 5k cheaper) was the 360 camera and the nicer wheels.

At just about 60k for a hybrid platinum, these things are a hell of a deal. Curious if anyone else has looked at them now that they're hitting the lots.

I’ve seen one now in the wild at work, I like it. Looks like about the right bit of size to get some useable space above the highlander. I think they’ve got a winner here.

I had an 88 Trooper and a 98 Trooper. The only reason I don’t have a 2008 and 2018 is they stopped making them in 2006.
We had kids, friends and dogs on many a beach or camping trip in them.

That said, my money would go to a 4R or Sienna if I was looking for a kid hauler.

Another vote for a clean 2nd gen Sequoia here. Our's gets 10 thumbs up, as well as a couple tail wags. The new siennas are tiny inside and the back row isn't made for anybody bigger than a hobbit; the hybrid system moves things along just fine, though. The sequoia, OTOH, STOMPS the Sienna and 4R for people moving duties, road trips, camping, trailering, comfort, space, and just about everything I can think of that is meaningful to me in a family truckster. Prolly even beats the 4R at the pump, but I won't go so far to as to claim as much for certainty.

My wife didn't want a bigger vehicle like a suburban. Even though the sequoia is as wide as a suburban or my tundra, it feels much more nimble and turns on a dime. On long road trips, we can back all of our gear in the back if we aren't taking the dogs, then pop the back seat up to chauffeur friends and family once we've reached our destination. Adults fit just fine in the back seat, especially since the middle row slides back or forward to give legroom where needed. Shorter road trips with the dogs, we can use the cargo rack for luggage.

I'm actually keeping my eye out for a nice 2nd gen Sequoia. In 2018, I figured I'd use extra bed space so I nixed the crewmax. A few years later, we've added a large dog and as big and nice as the 6.5' bed is on the DC, it ain't air conditioned so the dog has to be in the cab on a long trip. I think the Sequoia would work nicely though as a replacement.

If you really want more room inside, throw all your stuff in a cargo carrier and tie onto the roof rack. We have a Roofpax and use it all the time.

So the wife test drove a bunch, and actually got our hands on a Grand Highlander to test drive which was more difficult since most getting to the dealers these days are already sold.

She ended up falling in love with the Honda Pilot. 98% of the room and was more enjoyable to drive (her feelings anyway). So we came home with a shiny new Pilot. Never had anything from Honda before but I'm pretty impressed so far. When you add in the warranties and maintenance they included, I'm struggling to find anything not to like about it.

She was thinking the same thing and asked me if I could put a roof rack on the Tundra, thus giving me the green light on the Prinsu I've been looking at.

Congrats on the Honda! Circle back and give us a solid review in a few months. Our 2018 Malibu will not comfortably accommodate 2 kids, dog, wife and a husband [wanting some new wheels] for very long.

Personally I'd never put a rack on the Tundra, as the weight threshold, imo, isn't worth it.

It's not new. Wranglers have always been boxy. Even the Wagoneer isn't a new design philosophy for Jeep. Has everyone forgotten the Commander??

    Congrats!
Pilot, for the most part, are great for everything expect cargo space when 3rd row is up.
I am not sure, but keep an eye on the transmission, as that's the weakness that's well known.
Our 2017 Pilot had that issue and took me over 3 years to finally find a good local shop that knows their shit and did a transmission flush along with a TBS flash.

Other than that, I don't like where the oil filter is location, a super duper big PITA to get to and leaks all over the place....
But they are good, for the most part.

I found a new in box prinsu rack for my gx recently and its nice. No wind noise and great powder coat quality from what i can tell.

My only complaint is that the default position for one of the crossbar sits right over the shark fin antenna and noticed my SiriusXM reception got a little shaky.

I figured it would effect it a bit, but I never got into the satellite radio thing so I would never notice. All of my audio and Nav comes through my phone.
