So I was at the dealership today signing some paperwork and they are telling me that because I’m getting a hybrid platinum Toyota doesn’t want me to undercoat my truck because of the electrical system in the thing…. Seriously? Anyone been told this by the dealership? What’s gonna happen if I say f@k that and go coat it?

    Lots of stuff!
Maybe they don’t want to get any overspray on the orange high tension wiring? For safety reasons?

Are there electrical connections that oil may interfere with?

I would guess that's to prevent the thick stuff like ziebart (or whatever it is) being sprayed all over it. Those rubberized ones make it impossible to disconnect wire harnesses and the like. It's definitely something to follow up on and get a very specific "why" out of them. If they can't tell you why, then tell them they need to get in touch with corporate and get you an answer, because preserving your vehicle with fluid film shouldn't cause an issue.

I'm throwing the B.S. flag on this one. Let me guess, the stealership has a product available that they can apply that won't invalidate your warranty. Bastards.

So I talked to them again. They said undercoating with something like Krown is fine. Yeah it’s the thick stuff they don’t want because the hybrid system has high voltage wires that are colour coded to the hybrid system and they don’t want them covered up for saftey reasons.

I recently went through an ordeal when i dropped of my truck for its last free oil change. They called me later saying there was a massive gear oil leak somewhere, because the entire under side of the truck was covered in oil. After they sent me pictures, I assured them it was Fluid-film.
