07-13 OEM Headlight Options

I just bought a 2012 Tundra Crew Max and I want to replace the headlights with new OEM lights. When I search for OEM headlights I get 4 part numbers (per side) with a big price spread. Using my actual VIN, the dealer says that I need the most expensive one.

My question is, does anyone know why there are 4 PNs and what is the actual difference? Basically can I buy one of the cheaper options and will it fit?

All of these PNs show up for '07-'13 Tundra. However, dealer says my VIN calls for the top one.

Some of the parts sites say that one set is a sealed beam and the other is a non-sealed beam. Both have leveling motors and either one will fit your truck.

 

I always thought sealed beam meant the old school style where you had to replace the whole headlight assembly. Maybe a different definition of "sealed"?

It does seem like the cheaper PNs are non-leveling vs. leveling.

 

I was just researching this at my local dealership. Some parts come with auto leveling and the others don't. Also, some parts included the light assembly and all the bulbs/boots as pictured in the parts diagram. I think my dealer had 3 options for each side and prices ranged from 26x to 320; higher price had the bulbs and auto leveling.

 

I'm pretty sure this is correct. I had to get new headlights for my '13 recently and that is conclusion I came to. I have headlight leveling on my tundra, but not on my sequoia; the cheaper parts number came up for my sequoia, but the more expensive part came up for my tundra. I found some websites to describe as much - manual leveling vs non leveling headlights.

 

Ok yeah that must be it. I hadn't noticed but there is a switch inside the truck to electronically adjust the headlight height. I assume this is for when you are towing and the trucks nose points up. I suppose the mounting is the same but the harness will be different, etc.

And the two PNs "with leveling" seem to be one has bulbs and one is just the lens and housing.

Let me know how the install goes. My son's truck leveling headlights seem to be not going low enough and he wants to put a level kit on so we may have to replace the headlights to make sure they adjust all the way.

 

Any recommendations for where to order OEM parts on the west coast (California)? Seems like all the distributors are in Texas or the east coast and then shipping is high.

 

I order parts from Camelback Toyota in Phx, AZ. If ordering online, they seem to be cheaper than most places but sometimes I find cheaper by using ebay.

Before you decide to replace them, make sure that there is not a manual adjustment to get them withing the range of the leveling adjuster. I would look at mine, but I'm not near my truck at the moment.

 

Not sure I follow. I did see the word "manual" in the vague PN description. "HEADLAMP LEVELING DEVICE-WITH(MANUAL)".

 

If I'm understanding what CTB Mike is trying to say, the headlights should have some manual adjustment at the headlight itself - usually with a screwdriver. I honestly haven't looked at mine since my buddy is an auto body guru and has taken care of them for me. Anyways, you should be able to aim the headlights from the front of the vehicle; pull up to your garage or side of the house where you can be on level ground and turn your headlights on. You will see where the headlights are aimed. You should be able to adjust them to compensate for a lift, for example, back to where they should be stock.

Once the headlights are aimed correctly, you can use the leveling adjustment in the cab to adjust for heavy loads or a trailer. Hopefully that makes it a little clearer.
