The first Gen Toyotas are butt ugly. I’m sure they are reliable and all first gen owners will defend the shit out of them. Great, they can stay on the road 30 years. But, they have to be boring to drive and lack power.

Are we calling it a "racing" bulge now? LOL
Note the huge bulge and massive widemouth grille. Hoods used to angle down, but I guess it bulging upward and making the grille absurdly tall somehow increases horsepower and phallic/yonic by 10%.

People who drive one, don’t need the extra power, just the reliability and modability. Are you even a Toyota owner?

A 1gt doesnt look like a cod piece because its not one. We're real men (& a proper lady or 2) that work on our own stuff, & dont need a 'manly' truck to convince onlookers that we can still get it up.

I get peak torque by 3400, you have to spin it up to 4100.

Yep and the 1st gen feels more peppy due to the lower weight as well.

I drive a Ram. Everyone driving a Ram is a tobacco spitting red neck good ole boy.
Yes, that is a woman. They went back to their Tundra roots with the 3rd gen.

Whatever helps you sleep at night while your truck is in the shop. My neighbor owns a ram. When it’s not in the shop she loves taking it to get groceries.

Pretty good. I honestly love this truck. So far, dead reliable. I’m also a big Toyota fan. Unfortunately, my Tundra was in the shop 8 times. Not exactly “bulletproof”. I unloaded it when the passenger cam tower began to seep. Reading both Ram forums and this forum I can tell you they both have their issues.

    It would be normally

But new vehicles are just that bad. It's worth paying a lot to not have one.

Dodge had to offer lifetime power train warranties in the early 2000s because they sucked so bad. Then they had to change the name of the truck to get people to buy them again. Dodge is sh*t, always was and always will be junk.

I think you nailed it on the head here. Former lifetime GM guy and I'll be honest: GM's engines are and always have been potential power monsters, low-buck buildup material, awesome engineering, though you'd be lucky to get 150k-200k out of them w/o needing a rebuild, which wasn't overly complex for the longest time. Their electronic transmissions were the Achilles heel of the platform.

Every truck has its issues, but I'll say, as former multi-vintage, multi-brand vehicle owner, Toyota hit a sweet spot in size+equipment+potential with the 1st gen. The 2UZ is basically bulletproof IMHO, truly a million mile engine. The truck vintage itself is right on the cusp of nanny-device hell, just enough modern features, lacking few to none for me which I couldn't easily port into it.

I've sat in a number of the newer trucks stock, only Dodge was my GC's and it's heavily modified. Hell, my dad drives a very recent model 2.5 gen, I've driven it also. They all feel like driving a damn short bus in comparison, minus the windowlickers, b/c my kids weren't in it. The sizing of trucks to - I guess? - compensate for extra cab room has become freaking absurd in the last 15ish years. It's Dodge's fault. They started that garbage and the hood bulge nonsense with the '02 Ram. New trucks aren't trucks. They're glorified minibusses to haul around luxury princesses, with a bed. A bed with a tailgate that folds 10 different ways so you can work with your hands on your fancy laptop, and store your suit and tie for after-the-job affairs.

That 4.6 may make a tad more power, but it's carrying about 1000lb more. They are evenly matched. It's the 5.7 that makes a difference.

Oh, you're new here. It's been an ongoing thing between 1st and turd gens. Turd gen is 2014-2021. 3rd gen is 2022+. Most of the turd gens that wander in here take the ribbing well, and we all get along. I have to shoo a lot of them though.
