It almost looks, like, textured or something, and slightly concave. Mine is more convex and texture matches the dash. Is it painted? Is that the original, or the recall unit?

I was eyeballing these today. I'm not running TC UCA, but I'll likely need to swap UBJ on a Toyota (or maybe Honda) again in the future. I just wish all these bastards weren't so damn tall.

I bet the TC works just fine. Probably won't have to do the job again *knocks on wood*, but I'm going to order them on pay day.

 

Did my 1GT duty today and eyeball checked my LBJs with a crowbar and the truck on a jack. Looked good, especially since I think they have 140k on them.

 

I might be compelled. There are a couple of things I'd do proactive maintenance. Timing belt, LBJ, radiator are the three big ones.

 

Just asked grandpa & my lbj's are original.

guess who's gonna be full pucker the whole ride home.

 

Water pump and maybe alternator too. Possibly starter if doing alternator. Knock those out and hit reset on a 20 year clock for the most part, if frame is good.

 

Was feeling like a lazy sod, so I greased my tailgate. Also changed out some of the plastic bits for upgrades. 15 minute job or so, can't believe I didn't take care of this sooner. I just sprayed it with some white lithium grease, I'm sure shiftster will be along shortly to say it will eat through my paint and give me ass bleeds. In other news- I'm thinking my handle is not OEM, metal looks too new and it seems like something an 8 year old in China fashioned. That plastic tab that the lock pivots on seems wobbly.

Not gonna bash your lube choice. But yeah, that's an aftermarket handle.

 

I believe my metal masterbator handle has arrive so I can send my plastic to one of you. @txagg I nominate you if you can handle it.

 

I'm fine with my aftermarket tailgate handle. I just replaced my 4 year old Amazon tailgate handle with another one. It cost around $29. I wish the OEM handles weren't so expensive.

This summer I drove from Maine to the Alaskan Arctic (Dalton highway) and learned that my first gen loves catching air in its homeland.

You should know by my handle, that I can handle... That.... Handle.

 

My truck came with a replacement Amazon handle in the package still. Tailgate felt like it had never been lubed when I got it with broken handle. Have no issue with the cheap handle just keep it lubed.

Got my side by side (RZR) engine in today and running. Hoping to get it driving in the next couple days.

In truck news I confirmed today that my driveway oil leak culprit is the Tundra so I guess I should look into it. I have two other oil leakers but they don't get driven much (for total opposite reasons) but the Tundra gets parked in a lot of places so I'd prefer not to have to stick a board under it all the time.

Haven't even popped the hood to look for leaks yet but I know I'll start with valve covers as @shifty` would recommend. Think there's a couple other common spots to look, I'll have to do a bit of thread searching.

TC makes those for the OEM uppers. Not for the TC sphericals.

 

Mine too, my God how terrifying after @tokolosh 's disaster. If you want to have an LBJ replacement party this weekend, I have an impact wrench, floor jack and a couple of stands and will bring beer.

 

not gonna be able to do it this weekend (i wish) gonna have grandma with me. Need to order some soon, though.

 

Well tell me when, I'm only halfway kidding. You're a far more experienced wrencher than I am so I'd appreciate the company and opportunity to learn some new curse words.

 

You can do it @JasonC. We're all there in spirit! Might be a good time to buy a cost-effective pitman/tie rod end puller ($15-$20)

raise up the truck, take the wheel off
remove the 4 smaller bolts
remove the cotter pin & castle nut from the tie-rod end (might have to give it a good whack with a rubber mallet or your hand, shouldn't be too difficult to unseat it unless rusted). Move tie rod to the side.
remove the cotter pin & loosen the castle nut on the big, bottom, LBJ bolt.

use a block of wood on a jack to support the knuckle.
then, take the castle nut on the big LBJ bolt and almost remove it, gotta leave a few threads so the puller's pivot has a place to sit.
now use the puller you bought ahead of time to unseat the LBJ from the LCA.
use the jack to raise the knuckle and you can remove the LBJ!

Edit: small LBJ bolts are 14mm, tie rod end is a 19mm, big LBJ bolt is either a 19mm or 22mm...can't remember
